- Oxford Online English
- Experience: 2 YEARS
- Positions: 5
- Freelance Position
- Degree Required
Each class paid at 50GBP/60EUR/65USD (45 minutes class time + ~1 hour prep time). You start with 1 class/week, with the chance of more work in future.
Successful candidates may have access to other work opportunities (regular 1-to-1 online teaching, content writing, video presenting, audio recording).
Details of Position
Successful candidates will initially teach one class per week; the workload may increase in the future. If you are interested in teaching one-to-one classes through our website, that is also an option. However, we are primarily recruiting teachers to teach live stream classes - please do not apply if you are only interested in regular 1-to-1 teaching.
Although it's not strictly necessary, it would be preferable if you could teach at the same time each week. Our peak hours are 1300-1800 UK time.
As part of the interview, you will need to prepare and demo a 10-minute live stream using OBS or a similar platform.
If you're wondering, "What is OBS?", it's free, open source streaming software. You can download it and experiment for yourself here: https://obsproject.com/download. You don't have to use OBS; any streaming software that works is fine.
To see what we do now, check out our current live streams at 1500/Wednesdays or 1400 Thursdays (UK time). Streams are publicly available for 24 hours after they finish. Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/oxfordonlineenglish
In general, for those who work within our organisation, work related to content writing, video presenting and audio recording is often in demand. These are not a part of this application process, but we are a growing business and we often have opportunities in these areas. If you have relevant skills and experience, that would strengthen your application.
Referencing specific keywords in your cover letter ("live stream, OBS, YouTube"), will strengthen your application.
- You need a medium level of tech competence and an ability to troubleshoot technical issues (= use Google competently).
- You need a decent camera (720p or better), a reasonably good mic, and a computer which can handle the demands of live video streaming (ideally with an Intel i5 or any Ryzen chip with dedicated GPU; Intel i3 chips or AMD chips with built-in GPUs may be enough, but you should check for yourself - you need to sustain a 2500KBpS bitrate using OBS or similar streaming software).
Salary and Benefits
One class is >45 minutes teaching time. Preparation time is around 1 hour. There is a small amount of admin work for each class - not more than 15 minutes.
Payment is monthly in arrears, by invoice.
