Core Responsibilities

Lead and co-ordinate teaching programmes and teaching resource in the most efficient and effective way (particularly with reference to curriculum review, timetabling, assessments and staff deployment) with an understanding of student satisfaction levels and the schools need to function cost effectively, focusing on key KPI areas.

Line Manage the teaching team inclusive but not limited to, class observations (in line with policy), HR paperwork and compliance, PDRs and CPD training.

Ensure the academic use of the school database is up to date and being used accurately and systematically.

Lead on validation and accreditation processes and ensure all administrative and other procedures are in line with accreditation requirements.

Ensure testing, interviewing, inducting and placement of all new students is carried out effectively, expediently and to a high standard.

Manage the curriculum review and quality assurance, and liaise with the school Principal on all aspects of existing and potential courses at the Junior and Adult schools.

Be responsible for the co-ordination of examination scheduling, invigilation, exam assessments such as Cambridge and the production of academic reports and ensure these are delivered in the most effective and efficient way to the required standards.

Convene, chair and contribute to staff meetings as appropriate.

Encourage the development and use of new learning technologies.

Plan effectively to ensure the continuous improvement of academic systems and processes.

Develop academic programmes in line with market needs.

Provide academic support to the administration team in relation to student bookings.

Be responsible for the student disciplinary procedure in conjunction with the Principal.

Deal with a wide range of enquiries from students, agents and other bodies.

In the absence of the Principal, assume responsibility for the day-to-day running of the school with the support of the Language Schools Manager.



Staff Management

Recruit and retain high quality staff with relevant qualifications and experience to meet accreditation standards and ensure their full induction on appointment.

Assist with all teacher related HR including leave, sickness, timesheets etc (and ensure all HR duties are carried out thoroughly and efficiently through clear processes that are adhered to in respect of documentation and recording.)

Inspire and motivate staff to deliver high quality performance in all areas.

Manage the performance and development of all academic and academic related staff within all OSE schools through observation and appraisal.

Manage the schools CPD programme for teaching staff.

Promote a collaborative working environment to maintain and enhance the quality of the student learning experience and the overall teaching-learning environment.

Be responsible for academic policy, priorities and objectives.

Arrange cover for absent staff; to record and monitor all absences in an organised and timely manner according to school policy and in line with accreditation requirements.

Teaching

Teaching hours of between 8 and 12.5 hours per week in addition to any cover required in agreement with the Principal.





Examinations

Ensure that the schools record of success in exam results (the Cambridge exams in particular) is maintained at (or restored to, if necessary) the highest levels.

Maintain thorough and accurate records of all exam results and compile up-to-date tables and charts as appropriate for use by marketing staff and for the website.



Safeguarding

Maintain up to date skills at Level 3 and contribute to Safeguarding Team responsibilities

Be part of the schools Designated Safeguarding team and report any safeguarding concerns regarding students and teaching staff to the Principal

Be a first aider

Be required to have the emergency phone on a rota basis with other school managers.



Student Experience

Maintain ongoing contact and dialogue with all students and ensure appropriate guidance and support is given to students regarding their academic choices.

Jointly with the Office Manager, organise and manage student questionnaire analysis and student certificate delivery. Investigate student complaints, devise and implement solutions to complaint.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that processes and systems are in place to track, record and report on students progress and attendance.

Oversee fortnightly progress tests and manage the student tutorial system.

Monitor and review pastoral and academic support for all the students and ensure we meet and exceed accreditation standards.

Check class registers daily to identify student absenteeism and take the appropriate measures to address this when it occurs, seeking support from the administration team as required.

Contribute to the overall management of student expectations to achieve the highest possible student satisfaction, working closely with the Principal.

Provide general academic advice and assistance with UCAS, UKPASS, exams and qualifications to both students and members of staff as required.

Contribute to the development and communication of school plans.

Working with the Marketing Department and the Language Schools Manager, ensure that all academic information on the website is regularly reviewed and is up-to-date and accurate.



British Council Accreditation

Co-lead British Council Inspection and co-ordinate its preparation

Contribute to the maintenance of records, resources and performance to meet or exceed the criteria from the Accreditation UK Handbook.

Degree Required

Applicants should have one of the following required qualifications:
Cambridge DELTA, Cambridge DELTA Online, Trinity DipTESOL

Salary and Benefits

£36k - £41k DOE
Teachers' pension scheme (TPS) including an employer contribution of 28.6%
