Job Summary

SBC is the first summer school provider in the UK to have achieved a perfect 15 Areas of Strength in a British Council inspection.

The College Principal for SBC at Eton College is responsible for the day to day running of the College.

Details of Position

Main Duties:
Take overall responsibility for all aspects of the College
Be responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of students and staff at all times
Work closely and on an on-going daily basis to support and lead the other SBC managers.
Have a close working relationship with the SBC Roaming Managers and the SBC Head Office,
communicating regularly so they are kept informed of all goings on at the school
Ensure the students are supervised appropriately and the daily schedule runs efficiently
Maintain the good reputation of Summer Boarding Courses Ltd and the host venue
Communicate with students and parents both over the phone and face-to-face in a friendly and professional manner, handling any enquiries and requests efficiently
Be an approachable and positive presence, engaging with students and staff in all areas.

Site Management:
Oversee arrival and set up of the site, liaising with the host school
Maintain an excellent relationship with host venue and resolve issues positively.
Oversee student arrivals and departure days at the school, welcoming families and managing staff logistically so the day runs smoothly
Oversee site health and safety, and ensure all necessary fire drills are carried out
Ensure that the host schools are providing a good standard of catering and cleaning
After final student departures, oversee the pack up of the course and handover of the school campus to the host school, including the course stock and inventory to SBC Head Office.

Staff Management Duties:
Be a direct line manager for all Managers, supporting them daily.
Effectively welcome and induct all staff during induction week
Work towards creating a positive and cohesive staff team
Respond to the individual needs of all staff sensitively and professionally
Conduct individual staff appraisals, mutually identifying areas for improvement to provide practical support
Have a full understanding of the daily schedule and staff roles, responsibilities and performance
Lead regular management team meetings and ensure daily staff meetings and key staff briefings are held.
Liaise with the SBC Head Office about all matters related to staff payroll
If required, deal with any staff disciplinary issues in conjunction with SBC Head Office
Welcome any Group Leaders and facilitate a positive integration into the College

Student Management Duties:
Welcome new students to the school, ensuring students and parents alike are well looked after on their arrival
Deliver key student welcome talks, briefings, assemblies and departure talks.
Oversee student welfare and wellbeing through proactive interaction with students
Take the lead role in managing student incidents and behavioural issues in conjunction with SBC Head Office
Ensure pastoral matters are dealt with professionally and sensitively
If required, assist with welfare and pastoral duties including house, meal-time and night-time duties
Take Level 2 Safeguarding Course and be one of the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) if required
Ensure that suitable arrangements are made with any non-residential students and their parents or guardians

Administrative Duties:
Create and maintain the weekly staff rota, ensuring staff work correct number of sessions/hours and have appropriate time off.
Create and maintain accurate weekly bed lists, ensuring students are accommodated appropriate to their age, nationality and requests.
Create and maintain accurate records of weekly catering requirements.
Oversee the accurate creation and storage of Health and Safety Records including Risk Assessments, Incident Logs and Reports and Emergency Evacuation documentation.
Support and oversee the management team to create and maintain all essential paperwork including British Council, and welfare documentation.
Oversee regular pocket money sessions and ensure that all cash and valuables are secure
Liaise with Transfer Managers to ensure staff are allocated and prepared for transfer duties.
Support with office-based tasks necessary for the smooth running of the summer programme

Due to the nature of the role, the College Principals working week is not divided into sessions like other College staff. The College Principal will have one day off per week.

All members of staff employed by SBC will be expected to bring certain key qualities to the operation. There must be a professional interest in working with young people and particularly international children. Safety and welfare of the students is of paramount importance at SBC and a practical enforcing of this belief should be a quality exhibited by all staff.

The position requires huge amounts of energy, flexibility, the ability to lead from the front and inspire students and staff alike. The College Principal is key to creating a smooth running, fun yet professional environment which will facilitate a fantastic experience for all of our students and staff.

The safety and welfare of our students is of paramount importance at all times and this should therefore be the priority of the College Principal.

Any gaps in your CV will be enquired about and must be explained satisfactorily
You will provide the details of two recent and relevant referees who we will contact
You will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS), and equivalent if living outside the UK
You will be asked to sign the Children's Act 1989 declaration safeguarding the welfare of children, and state that you have no known reason why you cannot work with children
Official identification and certificates (either originals or certified copies) will be required for our records

Strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, flexibility
Ability to take control of and a positively lead a staff team
Strong organisational skills
Previous residential summer school experience
Experience of managing welfare and behavioural issues effectively
