Details of Position
Director of Studies who take overall responsibility for implementing and monitoring the performance of the Academic programme.
EFL Teachers who plan and deliver English lessons, assist and support the students in the boarding houses and ensure students are safe and engaged in activities.
College Tutors who plan and deliver lessons in a variety of subjects and engage the students both in and out of the classroom.
Office Coordinator who oversees the summer school office, which incorporates all of the behind-the-scenes administration necessary for the smooth running of the summer programme.
Teachers and Tutors
In accordance with the British Council accreditation scheme, all SBC Teachers must possess the required qualifications outlined below.
Educated to degree level or above
Trinity CertTESOL or CELTA, and/or Primary QTS or PGCE in English/Modern Languages with ELT/TESOL subsidiary
1+ year's professional teaching experience in the subject (or topics covered in the syllabus)
Passion for working with young learners
Previous residential summer school experience;
Experience of leading students in an extracurricular capacity;
An interest in sports / arts & crafts / music / drama;
First Aid, Life Guard and any sporting qualifications advantageous.
Please note; as a large part of the teaching role is spent engaging and leading students outside the classroom and in the Activity & Social Programme, applicants who can discuss their suitability in these areas will be at an advantage.
Director of Studies
In accordance with the British Council accreditation scheme, all Directors of Studies must possess the required qualifications outlined below.
Educated to degree level or equivalent
Possess a TEFLQ qualification
Have considerable TEFL experience
Experience of managing staff in an educational capacity
Previous residential summer school experience essential
Proven previous experience of working in a residential UK summer school is essential.
Applicants with experience of the behind-the-scenes administration of a residential course will be greatly preferred.
All members of staff employed by SBC to work at the summer school will be expected to bring certain key qualities to the operation. Generally, there must be a real interest in working with children and in particular a strong empathy for working with international children. In general terms we look for staff to be:
We expect all staff to be able to communicate effectively with our students, using an appropriate level of language to suit the group. We expect staff to be able to take control of students and to be authoritative if necessary.
The safety and welfare of our students is of paramount importance at all times and this should therefore be the priority of all staff.

You will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (previously called a Criminal Records Bureau check), and equivalent if living outside the UK, and you will be asked to sign the Children Act 1989 declaration safeguarding the welfare of children, and state that you have no known reason why you cannot work with children.
