Job Summary

The Leeds School of English is seeking several engaging, flexible and dedicated EFL teachers to join the team at our main site in Leeds city centre for summer 2019.

You will teach on our General English / IELTS preparation courses for students aged 16+.

Up to 23 hours teaching per week, Monday-Friday.

Details of Position

The Leeds School of English is a growing centre for General English and IELTS preparation courses for adults (16+) in Leeds city centre. In 2018 we received a strong British Council inspection report, and were named a Centre of Excellence for 2019 by EL Gazette.

We are seeking engaging, enthusiastic and flexible EFL teachers, with excellent organisational and team working skills.


Duties and responsibilities:

Planning, teaching and materials preparation:
To deliver EFL lessons as per the weekly rota;
To prepare a weekly plan of teaching, and plan lessons accordingly;
To contribute to the School's teaching resources by preparing supplementary materials as necessary, and preserving and sharing them with the academic team for future use;
To use the designated e-learning platform for setting and monitoring homework.

Assessment:
To plan and implement regular progress testing of students, according to the curriculum and the needs of students;
To record students' progress and complete academic reports as requested by the Academic Manager.

Monitoring student progress:
To regularly provide 121 tutorials for students, to give feedback on their progress and help them to set learning goals;
To confer with other members of the academic team on students progress as appropriate;
To report any need or request for level changes to the Academic Manager.

Supervision:
To facilitate communication between students at break times wherever possible.

Administrative Duties:
To ensure all weekly course plans, registers and further documents are completed fully and filed or submitted on time as appropriate;
To attend weekly academic team meetings.

Continuing professional development:
To actively seek opportunities for professional development;
To teach reflectively and participate in peer observations;
To attend weekly and monthly internal CPD workshops.

Policies
To be familiar with and ensure the implementation of all school policies, with special attention to the Health and Safety, Diversity and Equal Opportunities, and Safeguarding Policies.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications:

A first degree in any subject (Level 6).
TEFLI qualification recognised by The British Council (Cambridge CELTA / Trinity Cert. TESOL).
Experience of teaching General English to adults.

Desirable qualifications:

A postgraduate degree in a relevant subject.
TEFLQ qualification recognised by The British Council (Cambridge DELTA / Trinity Dip. TESOL).
Experience of teaching EAP and/or IELTS preparation.

Skills:

Ability to create a welcoming and engaging classroom atmosphere.
Ability to build and maintain good rapport with multicultural groups of students.
Ability to work as part of an academic team.
Proven commitment to continuing professional development.
Excellent IT skills with experience in delivering e-learning.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to monitor student progress and provide students with effective feedback.

Salary and Benefits

Salary details will be discussed at interview.

We offer basic (TEFLI) and higher (TEFLQ) hourly rates plus holiday pay for teachers on zero hours contracts, as well as a pro-rata admin rate for time spent attending the weekly teachers' meeting, monthly CPD workshop and for tutorial and academic reports produced.

We are able to offer fixed term contracts for suitable candidates during the peak period (1st July-16th August 2019), with the possibility of additional hourly-paid teaching either side of these dates.
