Students at LELI come from a variety of backgrounds, and many have had their education disrupted due to Timor-Leste's years of struggle for independence. The standard of education and the methodology most students have been exposed to in Timor-Leste means that some students have difficulty with modes of abstract thinking. In conjunction with building students English language proficiency, EFL teachers at LELI also help to develop students analytical and critical thinking through a range of different teaching strategies.
Successful applicants must be flexible, work well as part of a team remaining polite, professional and patient even under sometimes difficult circumstances, and have the ability to cope with the challenges associated with living and working in a developing country. Timor-Leste can be a challenging environment at times, but it is also a land of opportunity for those willing to invest their time and energy. The country is going through positive change and the successful candidate would be helping to make a genuine difference in the development of a nation that is rich in culture and history.
