We provide a comprehensive package of tuition, social experience and accommodation to groups and individual students over the summer, as well as year round programs to Young Learner groups based in the adult KIE schools.
We are now recruiting EFL Teachers to join our team in Torquay. The role is based in a fantastic, vibrant town in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Torquay receives between 3 and 4 million visitors per year and has a long history as a Language Travel destination.
A typical day will involve:
8:30am. Tuesday morning. You arrive at the school and ensure that your materials are ready for the days classes. The staff room is a high-energy hive of activity. Your DoS tells you about the new students who will be joining the class today and checks that you are ok with your plans suggesting a couple of refinements here and there. You get to the class and fire up the IWB.
At 9am the students arrive for their first lesson of the morning. You greet everyone and welcome the new students before kicking off with a fun get-to-know-you warmer. The main lesson involves a running dictation to present the target language followed by a plan-a-party web quest. The students come up with some crazy ideas for the party and they are using the new language well. You monitor the presentations that they note down some errors for a fun grammar auction tomorrow.
The second lesson starts with an information gap reading centred around the afternoons excursion a trip to the historic city of Exeter. Vocabulary is reviewed using Quizlet live a communicative online matching game that is now a class favourite. The lesson culminates with the students writing and acting out a short scene set in Roman Britain.
After lunch you and three other teachers attend a training session hosted by the DoS. The subject is incorporating more pron into your classes and your fellow teachers have a number of great ideas that you decide to make use of in future lessons.
The final class is being team taught by yourself and another teacher and this afternoon it is project time! During the break the other teacher gives you an update on progress so far so that you can effect a seamless handover. The lesson starts and the students are engrossed in their chosen project designing and building a flying machine. They are working in small groups and using the functional language that they were given. At the end of the session a fun competition is held to see whose machine can fly the farthest.
Before heading home you run off a few photocopies for tomorrows classes and leave the completed register and work record on your desk.
Your key responsibilities as an EFL Teacher will involve:
- preparing and teaching classes in accordance with the Kaplan Curriculum statement and suggested weekly outline
- monitoring the wellbeing of students, actively seeking to resolve any issues or areas of concern
- being fully conversant with and adhering to H&S and Child Safeguarding guidelines as per Government legislation, the British Council Handbook and internal policies and procedures
- maintaining familiarity with risk assessment documentation, both onsite and offsite, updating records where necessary
