Job Summary

CBS offers exciting and challenging opportunities not just to teach English but to be part of an international team of volunteers working together to inspire our students and help them to build a brighter future for themselves and their community. Cofradía's Bilingual School is currently recruiting teachers for the 2017-2018 year. The CBS school year goes from mid-August to mid-June. Previous teaching experience and Spanish skills are not required.

Details of Position

Cofradía's Bilingual School is a small school located in Cofradía, Cortes, Honduras. We offer a high-quality bilingual education to over 300 students from kindergarten to grade 11. Our dedicated team of international volunteers work together with locally recruited Honduran teachers to provide students with a much-needed alternative to the public school system. Our students receive an immersion-based bilingual education from native and fluent English speakers from around the world. Graduating as English speakers provides our students with many more opportunities than they would otherwise have. Many of our students come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds and a bilingual education gives them the ability to end the cycle of poverty for their family. Our graduates are motivated and passionate people who are ready to build a brighter future for themselves, their community, and their country.

Our teaching positions range from Kindergarten (4-5 year olds) to 11th grade (16-17 year olds). English teachers may also teach Math (grade 1 only), Science, and Physical Education. Our teachers work Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 2:10pm as well as the occasional weekend due to special events.

We accept applicants on a rolling basis, therefore, those who apply sooner have a greater chance of being offered a teaching position.

All volunteer-taught classes are conducted in English, so Spanish language skills are not necessary. Similarly, prior teaching experience is not required to work at CBS. While experience in education is undoubtedly beneficial, we value all motivated and passionate applicants. We are seeking fluent English speakers who are eager to make a difference in the lives of our students.

Salary and Benefits

English teaching positions are voluntary. However, there is no required fee for long-term volunteers at Cofradía's Bilingual School. Accommodation is provided in a shared room in our volunteer house and breakfast and lunch are provided on school days as well as uncooked food which individuals can use to prepare dinner for themselves. You will need to pay for your flight to and from San Pedro Sula airport and any travel insurance you may require. Some volunteers choose to offset their living expenses by tutoring after school.
