Job Summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic staff to work at our 8 British Council accredited summer centres across the UK. Non-residential and residential positions available, with no pastoral duties for staff!

We believe strongly in our responsibility to promote the development of our teachers and have a varied programme of staff development and continuous support. We are Accredited by the British Council and are Members of English UK & Young Learners English UK.

Details of Position

We are a professional, accredited school with nearly 30 years experience. We treat our staff with the same level of individual care and concern as we do our students and recognise that our staff are a vital part of our success, not just for the summer, but on a long-term basis too.

Each summer we provide residential and family-stay courses for around 3,500 students from all over the world including, Italy, China, Spain, Israel, Russia, Japan, Austria, Dubai, France, Greece, Hungary, Poland and Portugal; the international aspect of our courses is important to us.

Elac has grown as an organisation in recent years; however, the company still has the virtues of a small family-run business: a personal service, a high standard of care and welfare, attention to detail and a focus on quality.

We have an ongoing commitment to Equal Opportunities, Safer Recruitment and Student Safeguarding. This means that all staff are required to undergo a DBS Enhanced Disclosure (or Disclosure Scotland) with Barred List (paid for by Elac), a Prohibited List if applicable and/or a police check if working abroad. At interview, candidates are asked to explain any gaps in employment history.

Centres start end of June/beginning of July 2020 but we can consider applicants who need a start later in July.
Staff need to be at the centre for induction 1 day before (Teachers & Activity Leaders) or 2 days before (Management) the student arrival dates below:

- Bath Spa University: 30th June - 11th August
- Cardiff Metropolitan University: 1st July - 29th July
- Eastbourne College: 1st July - 12th August
- St. Andrews School, Eastbourne: 5th July - 2nd August
- Ardingly College, Haywards Heath: 6th July - 17th August
- Christs Hospital, Horsham: 8th July - 19th August
- Mayfield School, E. Sussex: 7th July - 4th August
- Nottingham University: 1st July - 29th July

Management staff are requested to attend a key staff meeting before induction.

We are recruiting:
- Teachers (Residential and Non-residential)
- Activity Leaders (Residential and Non-residential)
- Senior Teachers
- Academic Managers
- Activity Managers
- Assistant Centre Managers

Contracts are for 4 to 6 weeks. However, 3-week contracts may be available. Staff training takes place 1 or 2 days before the Centre start date.

Full details of all positions available can be seen on our website (link below).
You can email our recruitment team directly.

We are looking for applicants who are committed and have a genuine interest in teaching young learners. Previous summer school experience is welcomed although not essential. It is a great environment for newly qualified teachers as there is a lot of support and opportunities for development; a great way to launch your TEFL career!

Teachers are required to teach 27 contact hours per week plus 3 hours per week for student testing and orientation. Teachers use pre-prepared materials and their own lesson plans, allowing them to be creative but not having to plan every lesson; they are also able to repeat lessons daily which cuts down on the planning time considerably. Residential teachers will also undertake 4 activity sessions per week. Teachers WILL NOT have any pastoral duties.

We believe strongly in our responsibility to promote the development of our teachers, and consequently we have an excellent programme of staff development including:

- Pre-course online induction + Staff Handbook
- Pre-course online Safeguarding course
- Pre-course staff training in the centre
- A fully resourced syllabus with accompanying lesson plans
- Regular staff meetings
- A programme of lesson observations with constructive written and face to face feedback
- In-house Teacher Development Sessions.

We require our teachers to hold the following:

- a Degree, plus
- TEFLi certificate, for example, CELTA or Trinity Cert. TESOL: a certificate externally validated and with at least 100 hour of input and at least 6 hours supervised teaching practice with real students, or
- PGCE English/Modern Languages with ELT/TESOL subsidiary and EFL teaching experience, or
University Certificate in ELT/TESOL course subsidiary and EFL teaching experience

Applicants without a degree but who hold a relevant EFL teaching qualification and experience may be considered. If you do not have any of the above qualifications, please consider our other summer roles and send us your CV to see if we have any suitable positions.

Salary and Benefits

Teacher Salaries from £350 to £400 per week.

Holiday pay in lieu of any untaken holiday (12.07% of total gross salary) will be added at the end of the contract. If no holiday taken, teacher salary from £392 to £448 per week.

Residential staff have board and accommodation included. Residential Teachers carry out 4 activity sessions per week, normally one evening activity and a full day excursion on day 6. THERE ARE NO ADDITIONAL PASTORAL DUTIES INVOLVED.
