Job Summary

Friendly, experienced and creative English tutors are needed for morning/daytime/evening/weekend 1-to-1 English lessons for Japanese learners in all areas of London. Lessons are usually held at the students houses or workplaces. This is an ongoing, part-time, flexible, self-employed position, which works well for around other commitments. It's an enjoyable way to top up your income & make meaningful connections.

Details of Position

Would you like to privately tutor Japanese people one-to-one in London?

Tutors are needed immediately for daytime/evening/weekend lessons in all areas of London (especially Ealing, Finchley, Chiswick, West Acton, Wimbledon, the City, North and Central London). Lessons are usually held at the students houses or workplaces, or sometimes in other suitable locations. This is a part-time, flexible, self-employed position which can be arranged around your other work & life responsibilities.

Teaching Experience (i.e. 2 yrs in Japan, TEFL summer school in Bath)
Qualifications (i.e. BA Hons English at Nottingham, RSA Celta, PGCE)
Japan connection (where/when in Japan, continued interest?)
Special interests or abilities (i.e. Business English, pronunciation, your methods, CRB/DBS checked)
Area of London (where you live and work / where you can conveniently teach)
Japanese recommendations in London ( i.e. favourite restaurant, etc.)
Likes / Hobbies (i.e. golf, guitar, public speaking)

Experience teaching Japanese people (preferably in Japan) is desirable, a CELTA or other teaching qualification (PGCE, etc.) is desirable. You will prepare interesting & appropriate lessons for your students, who could be children, secondary school students, academics, business people or homemakers (help choosing resources can be provided to get you started!). Many tutors are ex-JET programme teachers, who enjoy using their JET experience here in London.

Salary and Benefits

A commitment of at least 6 months is desirable, to ensure a great relationship with your students, though lessons often continue longer, with many tutors and clients forming a valuable and long-lasting connection. The usual starting rate is £18+ per teaching hour. Lessons are usually 90 minutes. Private tutoring can fit around your work or study schedule - we'll match you with students to suit you.
