Discovery Summer is accredited by the British Council and runs both day and residential summer courses for international students aged 8-17. The students have come to learn English, make new friends, try new activities, get to know London and have a great time!
Many of our staff and students come back year after year. In 2017 we welcomed students of over 60 nationalities, 60% of our staff were returners and many recommend us to their friends.
We are currently recruiting an Assistant Director of Studies to work across our 2 centres in Kensington, central London from Friday 22 June to Friday 10 August 2018
You will be responsible for helping the Directors of Studies with the smooth running and high-quality of the junior programmes provided at Collingham and Queens Gate. Together with the Directors of Studies you will be responsible for providing teacher support, professional development and academic administration. You will be a regular cover teacher. You will be a member of the Senior Management Team at each centre.
The roles will be full time for at least 5 out of 7 weeks during the summer period. 35 hours per week working Monday to Friday. You will also be expected to attend the relevant meetings, write reports and prepare classes outside of those hours.
Discovery Summer is committed to ensuring the safeguarding of children and young people and we expect our staff to share this commitment. To this end, all references will be followed up, gaps in CVs must be explained satisfactorily and appropriate suitability checks will be required prior to confirmation of appointment.
Degree or equivalent (any discipline)
Cambridge DELTA, Trinity LTCL Diploma TESOL or MA in Linguistics/TESOL (incl. 5 hours supervised teaching practice)
Excellent administrative, IT, organisational and record keeping skills
A genuine interest in leading a diverse team of teachers to deliver an innovative, stimulating and varied academic programme
Experience of EFL teaching to juniors
Experience of teaching and leading Project Based/Task Based programmes
Proven leadership abilities
First Aid Qualification (Discovery Summer will pay for a 1 day first aid qualification if necessary)
Energetic, creative, positive and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
A good eye for detail and enjoys working to exacting standards
Team worker and willing to contribute to the overall success of the programme
Culturally aware and genuinely enjoys working with children and teenagers
Committed to professional growth and is receptive to feedback
