Join BECA (Bilingual Education for Central America) in a high-impact leadership role. As the Instructional Coach, you are the bridge between educational excellence and community heart. This role is perfect for a seasoned educator or manager who thrives on intercultural collaboration, social justice, and professional mentorship.

Purpose:
The Instructional Coach supports high-quality teaching and learning by partnering with educators to strengthen instructional practice, build professional capacity, and align classroom practices with school improvement priorities. The role is grounded in a Danielson-inspired framework and centers on collaboration, reflection, and continuous improvement.

Role Overview
The Instructional Coach serves as a non-evaluative thought partner for teachers, facilitating professional learning, modeling effective instructional strategies, and supporting data-informed decision-making. The coach works at both individual and systems levels to enhance instructional coherence and student learning outcomes.

Your Impact:

Instructional Leadership: Coach and mentor a diverse team of teachers, lead professional development, and drive the English/reading curriculum for over 200 students.

Team & Operations Management: Oversee the volunteer experience, manage on-the-ground logistics (events, housing, and training), and ensure team well-being.

Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school and the local community, fostering deep roots and sustainable partnerships.

Strategic Support: Assist in social media, fundraising, and graduate tracking to ensure BECAs long-term mission thrives.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Planning and Preparation

Program Design & Pedagogical Expertise
Demonstrate strong knowledge of instructional pedagogy, adult learning theory, and coaching models.
Apply evidence-based teaching strategies and coaching approaches (e.g., cognitive coaching,
instructional rounds).
Maintain current knowledge of curriculum, assessment systems, and patterns in educator learning needs.
Establish clear, measurable goals for the instructional coaching program aligned with school priorities.
Identify and curate instructional resources, research, professional learning tools, and external expertise.
Design and implement a coaching program integrated with the school improvement plan.
Develop and implement a plan to evaluate the impact of coaching using multiple data sources.

2. The Coaching Environment

Trust, Culture, and Collaboration Systems
Build and sustain relationships grounded in trust, respect, and professional rapport.
Foster a culture of inquiry, reflection, and continuous improvement among educators.
Manage coaching structures, including cycles, scheduling, communication systems, and documentation.
Establish and model norms for collaboration, confidentiality, and ethical coaching practice.
Organize and maintain physical and digital spaces that support professional learning and collaboration.

3. Delivery of Coaching Services

Core Coaching Practice
Assess educator instructional needs using multiple data sources (observations, student work, assessment
data, and teacher reflection).
Partner with teachers to plan, implement, and reflect on instructional practices.
Use a range of coaching strategies such as modeling, co-teaching, observation and feedback, and
facilitation of professional learning.
Connect educators to instructional resources, expertise, and professional learning opportunities.
Support cross-team and cross-department collaboration.
Supports teachers both in and out of the classroom through coaching, modeling, and collaboration, and
provides classroom coverage when needed to enable observation and co-teaching, and in case of
absence or attendance for professional learning.
Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to teacher readiness, data trends, and evolving school
priorities.

4. Professional Responsibilities

Leadership, Reflection, and Professional Contribution
Reflect on coaching practices using evidence of teacher growth and instructional impact.
Maintain accurate documentation of coaching cycles, communication, and program outcomes.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding instructional priorities and professional learning.
Facilitate and participate in professional learning communities and collaborative inquiry.
Engage in ongoing professional learning and contribute to the broader educational community through
presentations, mentoring, or research.
Uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical coaching practice.

Qualifications

BA TEFL

Knowledge & Expertise

Strong foundation in pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and adult learning.
Understanding of coaching frameworks and professional learning design.
Ability to analyze data and translate insights into instructional action.
Experience: 6+ years in education and/or organizational management.
Education: Bachelors degree (Education or related field preferred).
Skills: Strong cross-cultural competence, growth mindset, and the ability to solve problems in a
low-resource environment.
Language: Experience living in Latin America or Spanish proficiency is a plus.
