Position Summary:
Berlitz invites applications for an aspiring or experienced Director of Studies (DOS) to join its team. You will be a teacher with at least 5 years teaching experience and also academic management experience.
The DOS will be responsible for the effective academic management of the school, ensuring that all academic activities within the school are carried out to the highest standard and in accordance with British Council guidelines. The DOS will also perform the role of Programme Leader for the International Foundation Diploma course.
The following outlines your main responsibilities without being a complete list of all duties you may have to carry out.
(All duties are subject to change at the discretion of the Managing Director.)
DUTIES
Specific duties include:
Induction and placement testing of new students.
Complete and record student tutorials.
Authorising the teachers weekly schedule.
Authorising purchase of new academic materials.
Professional development of teachers.
Overseeing writing of progress reports.
Overseeing evaluation processes.
Teaching a range of lessons, as required
Recruitment of new teachers.
Arranging cover teaching.
Welfare Duties
Perform the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead.
To advise students on coping and dealing with unfamiliar situations.
To assist with student welfare issues.
To communicate any welfare problems to the Welfare Officer and Managing Director.
To liaise with the Welfare Officer and Managing Director to find appropriate solutions to students problems.
Other Key Duties
To ensure that all teaching, processes and paperwork meet British Council standards at all times.
To lead a team of ESL teachers and to provide the necessary guidance and support to ensure they are teaching to an acceptably high level.
To create and maintain a positive atmosphere amongst ESL staff and language students within the ESL programme.
To observe all teachers and provide constructive feedback.
To monitor teachers' lesson plans and lesson records, ensuring lessons plans show variety and a good pace and are challenging for the students.
To assess the standard of all language students and to place them into classes according to their ability.
To oversee student discipline during teaching times.
To deal with any queries or problems that staff, students, parents or agents may have about the teaching of ESL in a calm and efficient manner.
To undertake report writing at the end of each week.
To teach an agreed teaching schedule according to business needs
To act as cover teacher when necessary
To lead, co-ordinate and attend regular staff meetings.
Qualifcations and Qualities Needed
First degree or equivalent - ESSENTIAL
CELTA or equivalent ESSENTIAL
DELTA, Trinity Diploma in TESOL or equivalent -ESSENTIAL
Highly organised with excellent time management skills.
Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours.
Independent and able to problem solve.
The ability to inspire, lead and manage a team.
