EFL Teacher - Summer Teenager Programme
The primary role of the Teacher is to ensure the English level of the students improves during their time on the course and that an integrated approach with the activity programme is adhered to. They also need to ensure the safety and well-being of the students and to help them to make the most of their time in London and have fun. They are also required to supervise at least one afternoon activity per week.

Start date: 2nd July 2017 (but must be available 1 week prior for training)
End date: 12th August 2017
Working hours will be 40 per week with the option of an additional 8 hours available.
To effectively plan and teach a high quality academic programme, including the preparation and resourcing for the English language lessons and the options lesson (Discover London, Fashion and Style, and Sports).
Initial assessment of students’ English level
Keeping accurate registers and records of student performance
Writing student reports
To provide the students with an exciting and stimulating experience of London
To supervise students during activities in the afternoon to ensure they are safe, taking all appropriate steps to minimise risk
To foster a very positive and lively atmosphere for the students
Welcoming students on arrival
Ensuring new students know where to find information
Assisting with student airport transfers
Respond sensitively and professionally to any pastoral matters
Supervising students during daily breaks and free time (as directed by your manager)
Being prepared for emergency situations in line with the policy of the school
Keeping accurate records and reporting incidents
Attending and participating in regular staff meetings
Assisting in the set up and shut down of centre
Various other tasks to help with the smooth running of the centre
To maintain open communication with the Academic Manager
Implement the school’s Health and Safety Policy
To ensure the implementation of the child protection policies, safeguarding policies and welfare procedures of the school
To carry out residential supervision duties, including mealtime supervision
To support the activity leaders when requested to do so by the Activity or Academic Manager
Apply agreed contractual arrangements and terms of employment and including attending weekly CPD workshops and meetings
The teaching timetable will be 9.00 -13.00: 9.00am-12.00pm General English, 12.00-13.00, Options class. There will be 40 min of break within these times. Lessons are 5 days a week, and will take place Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, as students will have a full day excursion on Thursday.
You will teach 3 hours of general communicative English classes (16h/wk), 1hour of conversation classes (2h/wk) or 1h of a specific options module (3h/wk). These option classes will have more mixed level students and should be more project-based.
You will be scheduled for afternoon sessions with the students either in the role of supervisor working with the activity leaders or leading an activity with the activity leader’s support.
Provide and improve student services as set out in the student manual
Responsible for the welfare of all the students and the adherence to safeguarding and child protection policies
Work closely with the Activity team to ensure all students are catered for and that the activities and academic elements of the course are integrated
Health and Safety: implement the school’s Health and Safety Policy.
Accreditation: be fully informed about standards set down by The British Council in the Accreditation Handbook.
References will be undertaken for successful candidates and any gaps in employment will be thoroughly investigated. Where a Disclosure and Barring Service check is appropriate the successful candidate will be required to complete an application for a DBS Disclosure to the appropriate level straight away.

This should also include referral to or inclusion on the DBS Children’s or Adult’s Barred List or regulatory body restricting or preventing them from working with children or vulnerable adults.

CELTA or equivalent + 2 years’ post-qualification teaching experience
Ability to plan and teach general English and the options class (Sports Fan, Fashion and Style and Discover London)
Excellent organisational and observational skills
Flexibility and enthusiasm
High level of written and verbal communication skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to implement plans to respond to academic related issues
First Aid training (If you are not First Aid trained, you must be willing to participate in training)
DELTA or equivalent
Experience working with teenagers
Experience working in a summer school
Experience working in a residential school

Salary and Benefits

Residential (including 6 weeks’ full board accommodation):
CELTA qualified: £410 per week, DELTA qualified: £450 per week
CELTA qualified: £510 per week, DELTA qualified: £550 per week
Pre-course preparation days, orientation and syllabus design and planning will be paid at non-residential rate as no accommodation will be supplied.
