Bloxham School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and highly effective EAL Tutor to join our Learning Support Department. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the academic progress and wider school experience of our international students, helping them develop the English language skills and confidence they need to thrive in a busy and successful boarding school.

Working as part of a dedicated EAL team, the successful candidate will deliver high-quality English as an Additional Language (EAL) provision to students from a wide range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. They will work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral colleagues and parents to ensure every student is fully supported to achieve their academic potential and integrate successfully into school life.

Salary:

£8,413 per annum (full time equivalent of £28,043)

Working Arrangements:

15 hours per fortnight spread over 5 days
On site working
34 weeks Term Time
Possibility of hours to be increased on an overtime basis after February half term.

About the Role:
The EAL Tutor will provide specialist teaching and support for students with English as an Additional Language, delivering tailored programmes that develop students' confidence and competence across speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Key responsibilities include:
Assessing the English language proficiency of international students and developing individual learning programmes.
Delivering high-quality individual and small-group EAL teaching.
Monitoring student progress, setting targets and maintaining accurate records.
Preparing students for appropriate external English language qualifications.
Working closely with teaching staff to develop effective classroom strategies that support EAL learners.
Producing resources that enable students to access the wider curriculum.
Supporting the induction of new international students.
Liaising with the International Students' Coordinator and pastoral teams to monitor student wellbeing and academic progress.
Sharing expertise with colleagues through training and advice to promote best practice across the school.
Supporting the admissions process where required through initial language assessments of prospective students.

About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated practitioner who is passionate about supporting multilingual learners and enabling students from around the world to succeed in an ambitious academic environment.

Essential:
Educated to degree level (or equivalent).
A recognised EAL qualification.
Experience of teaching EAL students within a secondary school setting.
An excellent classroom practitioner.
Ability to inspire and challenge students across a wide range of abilities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
Confident use of IT to enhance teaching and learning.

Desirable:
Experience preparing students for recognised English language qualifications.
Experience contributing to staff training or developing classroom resources to support EAL learners.
Experience within an independent or boarding school environment.
