WHO ARE WE?
PLUS is providing summer English courses for young overseas students aged between 10 and 17 years old. As one of the largest summer school providers in the UK, we take pride in being market leaders and are fully accredited by The British Council.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF EFL TEACHER?
You will assist with the aims of the academic department in the delivery of a high-quality academic program. PLUS adopts a student-centered, communicative methodology integrating engaging classroom learning with dynamic post-lesson activities that reinforce learning in a fun, social setting. You will be in charge of your classroom setting it up in a student-friendly manner following the instructions and guidelines delivered to you by your line manager during your induction.

The contract length is 2 8 weeks, depending on your availability and the centre. You can be either residential or non-residential.
Accommodation:
We are recruiting both residetial and nonresidential teachers. Full board accommodation is offered if required.
* Residential teachers agree to assist with excursions 1 day a week (approx. 9 hours) or equivalent involvement in leisure activities
Hours of Work
Dependant on centre and teaching package:
- Minimum teaching hours 12 per week
- Up to 30 hours in a handful of centres, may include leisure activities or supervision duties
YOU MUST:
Have either of the following qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or higher
Trinity TESOL Cert or Cambridge CELTA or equivalent (B.Ed, PGCE (Primary English/MFL, Secondary English/MFL) Courses must be externally validated, contain at least six hours teaching practice and a minimum of 100 hours of ELT/TESOL input. Applicants who have completed 100% online courses may be considered.
As well as:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Be willing to undergo the Enhanced DBS Check or Police Criminal Record Check if you are coming from abroad
- Provide 2 referees
- Commit to ensuring the safety and welfare of participants and staff
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE QUALITIES WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN THE RIGHT CANDIDATE?
- Previous teaching experience although we do welcome applications from newly qualified teachers
- Previous knowledge and experience of summer schools or short courses.
- Experience of working with young Learners
- Experience of using IT systems
- Culturally sensitive with a native speaker level of English
- Demonstrates a high-level understanding of English language teaching and learning
- Focused on quality and student outcomes
- Team player with the ability to work collaboratively
- Excellent organisational, administrative and time management skills can work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Punctual, reliable and flexible with an interest in professional development
SAFEGUARDING AND ELIGIBILITY CHECKS
All current holders of roles involving responsibility for or substantial access to under 18s, and all new appointees to such roles, will have appropriate suitability checks, for example with the Disclosure and Barring Service (in England and Wales) or Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (in Scotland), in line with the organisations stringent safeguarding policy.
All gaps in employment will need to be explained, and a minimum of two references are required. These can be academic as well as professional. All references will be contacted and specifically asked whether there is any reason that the applicant should not be working with anyone under the age of 18.
SALARY DETAILS
Teacher pay is based on three factors:
- Centre teaching-load group (A, B, or C)
- Years of teaching experience
- Position type: Residential (RES) or Non-Residential (NR)
Our centres are grouped into three teaching-load categories according to the number of teaching hours per week. You can view which centres fall into each group via our website.
Hourly rates for each group are outlined below.
(NR = Non Residential, R = Residential, yrs exp = Years of experience)
- 0-1 yrs exp - Group A: (NR £24.00 / R £18.00), Group B: (NR £25.50 / R £19.50) , Group C: (NR £27.00 / R £21.00)
- 1-3 yrs exp - Group A: (NR £27.00 / R £21.00), Group B: (NR £27.50 / R £21.50), Group C: (NR £28.00 / R £22.00)
- 3+ yrs exp - Group A: (NR £28.00 / R. £22.00) , Group B: (NR £28.50 / R £22.50) , Group C: (NR £29.00 / R £23.00)
Years of experience are defined as full-time teaching experience post-qualification.
