ELC Chester (formerly known as English in Chester) is a British Council accredited English language school teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to international students visiting the UK. We are seeking a Course Director for our Summer Course for Teenagers for 13 16 year-olds which runs from 29th June to 7th August. The period of appointment will 1st June 14th August 2026.
This role description outlines the duties and responsibilities of the SCT Course Director. It is not exclusive or exhaustive and the SCT CD will be required to undertake such other duties as may reasonably be requested. All members of staff are expected to be co-operative, flexible and professional within the needs of ELC.

Hours
1.1. 37.5 hours per week. There may be some flexibility required within this framework. -
Duties and Responsibilities before the Summer Course starts:
2.1. To organise the booking of rooms, facilities, excursions, transport, etc and formulating a plan B for weather-dependent activities.
2.2. To ensure that all budgetary constraints are met.
2.3. To organize, carry out and write/amend risk assessments for all activities, ensuring that any action plan is shared with all staff involved.
2.4. To interview, with the AM, any new activities assistants and work placement students.
2.5. To discuss with the AM the allocation of teachers to particular timetable slots to be reflected in the final timetables.
2.6. To draw up a staff rota ensuring that activities/excursions are appropriately.
2.7. To organise and participate in the induction process for returning/ new members of staff (scheduled for 25th and 26th June).
2.8. To investigate new locations for excursions/activities, checking for suitability and ensuring, where appropriate, that they comply with existing regulations. -
Directing of the Summer Course for Teens
3.1. To set up and appropriately maintain the spaces used by SCT, ensuring SCT signposts/ directions are displayed prominently on the Queens School campus and that it is clear that SCT is an ELC Chester course.
3.2. To oversee, liaise with and support Summer Course staff as necessary.
3.3. To monitor students progress and behaviour, promptly reporting issues to the appropriate person.
3.4. To ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times, and arrange cover including at short notice.
3.5. To organise and make available a variety of resources for teachers use during the Summer Course.
3.6. To ensure accurate records are kept in line with GDPR regulations.
3.7. To organise and assist with testing, marking and with student placement as required.
3.8. To ensure ELC safeguarding procedures are adhered to at all times.
3.9. To update and maintain SCT Social Media.
3.10. To welcome and maintain positive working relationships with group leaders and agents.
3.11. To organise and conduct weekly class visits and to carry out formal observations of SCT teachers and provide feedback. -
Post Summer Course
4.1. To ensure all materials and equipment is returned and stored appropriately.
4.2. To complete a thorough end-of-course report and evaluation of the Summer Course.

Degree Required
Teaching experience: 5 years
Qualifications
- university degree (at least at undergraduate level)
- CELTA or equivalent
- DELTA or DipTESOL
- PGCE in teaching English or Modern Foreign Languages
- PGCE in other areas may be considered
- MA TEFL / MA TESOL / MA Applied Linguistics with observed teaching component
Salary and Benefits
- pre-course preparation (1st June - 26th June) and post-course clear-up will be paid at £16.20 per hour
- Course directing (29th June - 7th August) will be paid at £740 per week
