About Celtic English Academy

Celtic English Academy, established in 2004, is a British Council accredited English language school based in the centre of Cardiff. For over 20 years, we have delivered high-quality English language education to adults and young learners, supported by a dedicated and experienced academic team.

We have been running Junior Summer Programmes since 2018 and are delighted to be expanding in 2026 to include a second venue in Mayfield, East Sussex, alongside our long-standing programme at Haberdashers' Monmouth School, located in the beautiful Wye Valley.

About the Programme

Our Junior Summer Programme provides a rewarding opportunity to teach English to international students aged 11-17 in a supportive, residential environment.
The programme includes:

  • 15 hours of English lessons per week
  • Existing materials provided, with scope to adapt lessons to learners needs
  • A communicative approach integrating:
  • General English
  • British culture
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Small class sizes (maximum 15 students)
  • Participation in student activities:
  • Afternoon and evening activities (e.g. sports, arts & crafts)
  • Weekly excursions (two half-day trips and one full-day trip) This is an ideal role for enthusiastic teachers who enjoy working with young learners in a multicultural setting.

Role Overview

As an EFL Summer Teacher, you will:

  • Teach approximately 15 hours of English per week
  • Deliver engaging, student-centred lessons using Celtic materials and your own resources
  • Participate in up to 20 hours of social activities per week, including excursions
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings
  • Support student onboarding and pastoral care as required
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and certificates
  • Ensure student safety and well-being at all times
  • Follow British Council standards and safeguarding procedures
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

Key Dates (2026)

Online pre-programme induction: Dates to be confirmed (paid)
Onsite staff induction:

  • Saturday 4th July 2026 Cardiff (paid)
  • Staff will then travel by coach to their allocated site later that afternoon for further onsite induction

Programme start dates:

  • Monmouth: Monday 6th July 2026 (5 weeks)
  • Mayfield: Wednesday 8th July 2026 (4 weeks) Applicants are welcome to express a site preference, but final allocation will be based on business needs.

Degree Required

Applicants should have one of the following required qualifications:

Essential Experience, Skills, Education, Training & Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Recognised ELT qualification (e.g. CELTA, Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent)
  • Experience working with young people aged 1117
  • English proficiency at C1 level or above
  • Strong classroom management and organisational skills
  • Safeguarding Children Level 1 certificate (or willingness to complete)
  • Legal right to live and work in the UK

Nice to Have

  • First Aid qualification
  • Enhanced DBS certificate
  • PGCE or QTS
  • 12 years teaching experience (UK or overseas)
  • Previous summer school or residential experience

Safeguarding & Legal Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Two references
  • Enhanced DBS check (company-paid if required)
  • Completion of Safeguarding and Prevent Duty training
  • Compliance with safer recruitment procedures

Salary and Benefits

  • £561 £591 per week (depending on experience)
  • Salary paid in two instalments (end of July & end of August)
