Centro Cultural Britanico (CCB) has an open position for an Academic Director to join our academic team in San José, Costa Rica, starting in May 2026.

We are a well-established language school founded by British and Costa Rican teachers with extensive experience in English Language Teaching and teacher training. We offer English courses to adults, teacher training programmes, Cambridge and IELTS exam preparation, and corporate and institutional courses. All programmes are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

The Role

The Academic Manager oversees all aspects of the academic department, including teacher support and development, and is responsible for both academic quality and direction as well as the design and day-to-day management of academic operations and processes.

Duties include:

  • Teacher recruitment, induction, observation, and support
  • Placement testing and student assessment
  • Exam coordination (Cambridge and IELTS)
  • End-of-term assessment and reporting
  • Academic scheduling and coordination
  • Planning and delivering teacher development sessions
  • Providing academic and pastoral support to teaching staff

Applicants should have one of the following required qualifications:
Cambridge DELTA, Cambridge DELTA Online, Trinity DipTESOL, Masters MA TESOL, MA TEFL

Qualifications

Cambridge DELTA

The role requires strong organisational skills, clear communication, IT literacy and the ability to lead and support a diverse teaching team.

Essential Requirements
Cambridge DELTA or an MA in a relevant field (TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or similar)

Desirable skills and experience

  • Proactive and solution-focused, with a practical approach to managing people and situations
  • Digitally fluent and confidet when working with digital systems for academic and administrative tasks
  • Strong interpersonal awareness, including the ability to listen, empathise, and respond to individual needs
  • Minimum one year's experience in a similar academic management role
  • Experience working with CEFR-aligned programmes
  • Experience with Cambridge and/or IELTS exams
  • Experience supporting teachers in face-to-face and/or online contexts
