About the Role

In 2026 BOSS will again run fully residential Spring and Summer programmes at Buckswood School in Guestling near Hastings. Students live in one of six houses, and each house is looked after by a dedicated House Tutor. Your job is to create a safe, supportive and enthusiastic house environment where every student feels included, engaged and cared for.

You are the big brother or sister figure for your house firm but fair, approachable, and consistent. You keep students busy, happy and safe, and ensure that the house runs smoothly each day.

Main Duties

As a House Tutor you will:

  • Take an active role in safeguarding all students
  • Maintain a safe, healthy and secure environment
  • Provide daily support, care and guidance to students
  • Promote good behaviour and a positive house culture
  • Encourage participation in lessons, sports and social activities
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to end of course reports
  • Manage pocket money
  • Carry out daily room checks and report issues promptly
  • Ensure house supervision and security at all times
  • Run weekly fire drills
  • Organise laundry
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed
  • Support activities, social events and sports sessions
  • Supervise excursions and ensure student safety throughout
  • Help with arrival and departure days, including airport duties
  • Respond to student issues and emergencies when required
  • Follow all BOSS policies and procedures, especially those in the Staff Handbook
  • Carry out any reasonable duties required to support the smooth running of the course

This outline may be updated as needed to meet the needs of the school.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young people is beneficial, but enthusiasm, responsibility and teamwork are just as important.
  • The right to work in the UK is essential.

Experience working in a residential summer school is beneficial, but enthusiasm, motivation and genuine teamwork are just as important.
