Details of Position

English in York, a division of York Associates International Ltd, is currently looking for a full-time Director of Studies for our language school in York, starting ideally in August 2022.

English in York provides General English courses and exam preparation classes to students aged 16+ from all over the world. Most of our teaching and training takes place in our language school and training centre, Peasholme House, which is located very close to York city centre.

The new Director of Studies will be primarily responsible for the following tasks:
Overall responsibility for coordinating the smooth running of English in Yorks academic programmes, including the management of the EiY timetable, the implementation of our courses, and the management of EiY materials and resources
Be responsible for the provision and development of effective English language teaching at English in York, by maintaining and developing a suitable environment and culture for study and work
Build a stable team of EFL teachers, including the recruitment and induction of new teaching staff, conducting regular observations to ensure pedagogical standards are maintained, and providing support, guidance, and staff development programmes for teachers to continue performing their duties
Take a leading role in the review, development and design of new teaching and learning practices at EiY, as well as also new course design and development
Act as a focal point for student-related pedagogical issues, including the monitoring of student progress, and the induction of new students upon arrival (including dealing with their placement test results)
Attending to pastoral and extracurricular duties, including overseeing lateness issues and assisting with the social and cultural programme
Designated Safeguarding and Prevent lead, responsible for Safeguarding/Prevent duty training and policy awareness with the teaching team
Ensure that requirements for external accreditation and compliance are met, including liaison with issuing authorities

Eligible to live and work in the UK
Qualified to DELTA or DipTESOL level, or equivalent
Experience in academic management, including teacher recruitment
Experience in teaching a wide range of courses, including Business English and Exam Preparation (experience delivering teacher training courses would be desirable, too)
An ability to both lead and motivate teaching staff and students
An ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment, and work well under pressure
Strong customer-service focus & committed to high standards
Has excellent IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, and dealing with databases
Resourceful, flexible, detail-oriented, and has a strong drive to succeed
An empathetic communicator that has a high degree of intercultural awareness and is aware of the needs of international students
A strategic planner that is able to multi-task, prioritise, and make sound decisions under pressure
An excellent communicator who is positive and able to maintain strong relationships

Salary and Benefits

37.5 hours per week. Salary negotiable.
