RESPONSIBILITIES OF TEACHERS
Duties are twofold. The first is to plan and execute a programme of English Language Tuition which is motivating, challenging and student-centred (3.5 hours on four or five mornings per week, plus one afternoon project session per week). The emphasis throughout is on encouraging a confident use of everyday English. Part of each tuition session is devoted to a theme (e.g. Music, People, Holidays & Travel, Fashion, Crime & The Law).
The second duty is to supervise and take an active role in the programme of excursions and local visits and activities which takes place on weekday afternoons and Saturdays. Details of these will be sent to you in advance. All the practical aspects of this side of the programme - booking of coaches for excursions, arrangement of entrance tickets, local visits, reservation of sports facilities etc. - are done in advance by the Local Organiser, but you are expected to be present at these events and to ensure that they run smoothly and that students are safe and participating fully. You will have one free afternoon each week. There will also be some evening work supervising one evening activity per week. Sundays are free days. You are not, incidentally, expected to be a great sports person, but you are required to organise/supervise sports sessions, such as rounders, football and volleyball. Since most of the groups consist of about thirty students with two teachers and a foreign leader in addition to the Local Organiser, you will not feel isolated. What you will find refreshing, both inside and outside the classroom, is the enthusiasm and co-operative attitude of the students.
