The Leys, Cambridge

Details of Position

We provide seasonal courses for 11-17-year olds as well as our summer junior programme for those aged 7-10.

We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated and responsible Directors of Studies and Assistant Directors of Studies who can provide our students with high quality teaching and unforgettable experiences that are expected on a Bell course.

Directors of Studies are responsible for the effective running of the academic side of the Young Learner programme including management of EFL Teachers, provision of academic advice, managing resources and preparation of study tours and excursions, as well as participation in activities.

Assistant Directors of Studies will assist in the effective running of the academic component of the programmes to deliver maximum quality, efficiency and student satisfaction.

Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the teaching and learning component of the programme, including Study
Tours, is provided to the highest standard and is compatible with its description in
pre-course publicity material, and according to procedures as set out in the Director
of Studies Guidelines;
- Be responsible for student placement and assessment;
- Ensure the provision of appropriate academic advice, tutorial support and feedback,
including student reports, to students;
- Provide appropriate feedback is provided to the Centre Manager and to the Young
Learners Department, including staff reports and a report on the pedagogic aspects of
the course;
- Manage the setting up, use and return of academic resources, equipment and facilities;
Induct, support and effectively manage the academic staff;
- Carry out classroom/lesson observations for all EFL staff and provide written and oral
feedback to each staff member; forward feedback documentation to Off Site Programmes
Department;
- Manage the EFL team to ensure a high standard of service and teaching as well as
maintaining class and student records, and contribute to end-of-course reports;
- Organise and contribute to the Professional Development INSET programmes for staff;
- Manage and oversee academic staff performance evaluation and provide feedback to
Centre Manager and Young Learners Department on all academic staff;
- Ensure that staff operate at all times in accordance with statutory regulations and
Bell policies and procedures;
- Ensure the supervision and discipline of students, as appropriate;
- Teach / provide supervision as required;
- Participate in programme social functions and activities and pastoral duties as
required;
- Participate in visitors programmes;
- Deal with student issues/emergencies as and when they arise;
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible
for / come into contact with;
- Deputise for the Centre Manager and be on call as required.

Qualifications

Person Specification:

Essential:
- Director of Studies: Delta qualified or equivalent
- Assistant Director of Studies: CELTA qualified or equivalent
- Degree qualified or equivalent
- Teaching experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Team leadership/people management
- Proficiency in time management
- Residential experience
- Teacher observation and teacher development experience

Desirable:
- Experience of academic management of a Young Learner centre
- Experience of materials development

be deducted from your first salary payment

- Proof of identity and qualifications will be required
- All references will be followed up and reference requests will ask specifically
whether there is any reason you should not be engaged in situations where you have
responsibility for, or substantial access to, persons under 18
- Appropriate suitability checks will be required prior to confirmation of appointment

- Salary £555 per week plus £66.99 per week statutory annual leave payment/ £430 per week plus £51.90 for the assistant role.
