Details of Position

InterEducation organises holiday language courses for secondary school students and training courses for European teachers.
InterEducation's holiday language courses aim to give students the opportunity to practise and improve their English, particularly their spoken English, as well as to increase their understanding of life in Britain. The courses include a full programme of visits and excursions as well as English lessons, and students are accommodated with local families or occasionally in residential centres. Each course is arranged for between 15 and 50 students from Italy, Spain and other European countries. Students are within the age range of 11-19, (mainly 14-18). Students are divided according to ability into classes of about fifteen.

N.B. InterEducation can provide tutors with accommodation with a local family
TUTORS' RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of a tutor are twofold. The first is to plan and execute a programme of English Language Tuition (usually 3 - 4 hours on four or five mornings per week plus one afternoon project session per week). The emphasis throughout is on encouraging a confident use of everyday English. A range of teaching materials is provided (including sets of course books suitable for teenagers on holiday courses). However, you may use your own materials if you prefer. Part of each tuition session is devoted to a theme (e.g. Music, British Press, Holidays and Travel, etc.)
A tutor's second duty is to supervise and take an active role in the programme of excursions and local visits and activities which takes place on weekday afternoons and Saturdays. Details of these will be sent to you in advance. All the practical aspects of this side of the programme - booking of coaches for excursions, arrangement of entrance tickets, local visits, reservation of sports facilities etc. - are done in advance by the Local Organiser, but you are expected to be present at these events and to ensure that they run smoothly. There will also be some evening work, e.g. taking the group swimming or to the cinema. Sundays are normally free (except on residential courses). You are not, incidentally, expected to be a great sports person, but you are required to organise/supervise sports sessions. Since most of the groups consist of about thirty students with two tutors and a foreign leader in addition to the Local Organiser, you will not feel isolated. What you will find refreshing, both inside and outside the classroom, is the enthusiasm and co-operative attitude of the students.

Qualifications

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FROM ENTHUSIASTIC AND CAPABLE TEACHERS WHO ARE:
1. Fully qualified and experienced teachers of EFL or
2. Graduates with at least ONE year's ELT experience and preferably a TEFL qualification (eg. CELTA) or
3. Teachers qualified in other subjects but with ELT experience, including Modern Languages PGCE students.
N.B. Photocopies of teaching certificates will be required prior to the commencement of the contract.
All teachers must be native speakers of English. Applicants must have a current DBS certificate.
