Job Summary

Sedbergh International Summer School is a great way to spend a month this summer! Talented individual students (no groups or group leaders), maximum class size of 15, lesson plans provided, fun activities and great excursions. Flexibility, an ability to demonstrate grace under pressure and to communicate effectively in a team are all essential - as well as lots of enthusiasm!

Details of Position

Sedbergh International Summer School is now in its 8th year and is owned and operated by Sedbergh School. In 2017, we welcomed 98 students aged 8-16 from a wide variety of different countries. For 2018, the course will run from 8th July to 7th August.
We are now seeking energetic, qualified teachers to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Director of Studies, you will have your own class of up to 15 students for 22 hours of EAL lessons per week. You will also be involved with some sport, activities, excursions and occasional overnight residential duties. The summer school experience is an intense one, so flexibility, an ability to demonstrate grace under pressure and to get on with and communicate effectively with staff and students is essential. The position is residential with accommodation and all meals provided. The course is supported by the permanent operations team in a small and friendly community environment.
Duties are:
Assisting Director of Studies with student placement testing.
Teaching according to the curriculum as directed by the Director of Studies, providing a positive and controlled learning environment.
Preparing your own lesson plans, maintaining records of work and writing reports to meet deadlines.
Attending, and at times leading, weekly excursions to UK cities.
Leading, supervising or assisting with occasional sports and activities.
Performing occasional overnight pastoral duties in the boarding house, if required,
Engaging with the students outside of class in a friendly yet professional manner.
Please note: We have another course running in addition to the International Summer School until 21st August. If you wish to extend your role, please ask on application.
The position is residential with accommodation and all meals provided.


Bachelor degree
Trinity/CELTA/equivalent qualification
2 years + EAL teaching experience
Previous summer school experience
Experience of delivering pastoral care
Familiarity with British (boarding) school system

Salary and Benefits

£550 per week, plus holiday pay. Staff must be able to work the full duration of the course.
