Details of Position
Responsible for: Supporting a team of EFL teachers and ensuring the smooth running of the academic aspects of our summer school English classes at St Dominics Sixth Form College.
The Summer School Assistant Director of Studies will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our schools summer academic programme based at St Dominics Sixth Form College. In addition to proven administrative and organisational skills, you should also possess the ability to communicate clearly with your team and be hands-on when it comes to tackling issues.
The role also requires an element of creativity and innovative thinking. We have developed Go Create!, a creative English language programme for juniors which sees students doing activities as diverse as filmmaking, song writing and radio drama production, and ideally the Summer School Assistant Director of Studies will have similar skills and interests.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
Lead student inductions, placement testing and classing.
Observe every teacher, write up lesson observation reports and have feedback meetings with all teachers, ensuring British Council academic standards are kept.
Lead certificate ceremonies for students who are leaving.
Teach cover classes as required.
Enforce the discipline procedure and follow up on any incidents.
Help manage our summer school English lessons for adults and juniors.
Support teachers to deliver our Go Create! And General English syllabuses.
Perform academic administration including checking class sizes are within our advertised maximum numbers.
Check any academic facilities / venues have been booked and are set up in advance of need.
Manage and maintain academic resources for teachers e.g. Go Create! equipment, teachers toolkits.
Ensure all school notices, posters and signs are up to date.
Ensure all teachers are keeping full and accurate lesson records and attendance of their classes.
Attend daily teachers briefings.
Ensure high student satisfaction; speaking to Group Leaders about their academic concerns as required.
Ensure international mix is well balanced across the classes.
Ensure our English Only rule is enforced in all classes.
Support the DOS with any necessary projects which arise.
Deputise for the DOS in his or her absence.
Attend paid training before the start of the contract.
The Summer School Assistant Director of Studies plays a huge role in making sure our summer is organised, energetic and successful. We want all our students to get the maximum they can from their courses, both linguistically and in terms of a fun, rewarding, creative experience, and the standards the Summer School Assistant Director of Studies sets are essential in achieving that.
At least two years experience in EFL.
DELTA or equivalent obtained (or in progress)
An undergraduate degree or above.
A C2 level of spoken and written English.
Outstanding IT skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as multitasking ability.
Flexibility and adaptability
Energy, enthusiasm, and a particular empathy with older children and teenagers.
Current clean DBS check.
Previous experience in EFL summer school management.
Experience and ability with creative English courses.
First Aid and/or Child Welfare training.

Salary and Benefits
£470 per week (including 12.07% accrued holiday pay)
