Job Summary

Residential Director of Studies needed for new Global Young Leaders programme for 12-16 year olds at ACS Cobham, Surrey. 26 June - 28 July 2018. Up to £730 gross per week + pre course preparation payment (£300) + statutory holiday pay (12.07% paid with final payroll). Students will learn English as well as covering 3 separate Strands: Young Entrepreneur, STEM, Creative Arts. We are looking for a highly-motivated, professional and experienced DOS who has the capacity to run such a programme.

Discovery Summer runs a range of high quality residential summer courses for young learners/teenagers in top independent schools in England. In 2014 we were inspected by the British Council and awarded 13 strengths out of a possible 15. Discovery Summer is currently ranked by the EL Gazette as the top multi-centre summer school in the UK.
In 2017 we welcomed over 60 nationalities including up to 10% English Student Hosts. The staff/student ratio is at least 1:5. We offer the highest level of pastoral care as well as a full, varied programme of after class activities and excursions. At least 60% of our staff return each year. Over the years we have built up excellent relationships with our host centres.
We are looking for a highly motivated, professional and experienced Director of Studies to work on our new Global Young Leaders programme at ACS Cobham, Surrey. During the course students will learn English as well as covering three separate Strands: Young Entrepreneur, STEM, Creative Arts.
You will work with our Head Office Academic Manager to ensure we deliver a Global Young Leaders programme of a high standard that incorporates a variety of skills into classes e.g. communication skills, critical thinking skills, study skills, presentation skills, leadership skills.
You will be a member of the senior management team at the centre. You will also be leading and managing a team of teachers providing teacher support, professional development and academic administration.
You will ensure every child has the opportunity to develop their language skills through interactive classes where the emphasis is on learning through doing.
Dates: 26 June - 28 July 2018

Degree or equivalent (any discipline)
Cambridge DELTA, Trinity LTCL Diploma TESOL or MA in Linguistics/TESOL (incl. 5 hours supervised teaching practice)
Minimum 3 years' EFL teaching experience ideally with international young learners/teens
Excellent administrative, IT, organisational and record keeping skills
Proven leadership abilities and a genuine interest in leading a diverse team of teachers to deliver an innovative, stimulating and varied academic programme
Experience as a teacher trainer
Experience as a curriculum/syllabus developer
Experience of working with students at English medium schools
Experience of Project Based/Task Based Learning and/or CLIL
Personal Skills
Energetic, creative, positive and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
Has a good eye for detail and enjoys working to exacting standards
Team worker and willing to contribute to the overall success of the programme
Culturally aware and genuinely enjoys working with children and teenagers
Committed to professional growth and is receptive to feedback

Salary and Benefits

This is a residential post. Free board and lodging is offered in excellent, modern accommodation at the school. You will work a 6 day week.
