Job Summary

- Recruiting teachers locally if required

Details of Position

Celtic English Academy, established in 2004, is a friendly and welcoming British Council accredited English language school in the centre of Cardiff. We take pride in our small class sizes, great teachers and wonderful support staff. For the past 14 years we have been offering a range of classes to both adults and younger learners. Due to the success of our 2017 young learner courses, we will be opening a summer school in North Wales for the first time this summer.
Situated in the seaside town of Colwyn Bay in North Wales, the beautiful British boarding school, Rydal Penrhos, will be the home for our 2018 Junior Summer Programme.
In 2016, Wales was named the Best UK Youth Travel Destination (British Youth Travel Awards) and North Wales specifically was rated as one of the Top 10 Places in the World to Visit (Lonely Planet, 2017). As a safe and friendly Victorian seaside town, which is easy to reach from Manchester and Liverpool airports, Colwyn Bay is a great location for young learners to experience a language learning adventure.
The aim of Junior Summer Programme is to provide students aged 11-17 with English language lessons every morning and with afternoon activities which can include sports such as:
-Swimming and much, much more!
In addition, our younger learners will have the opportunity to take part in some exciting half-day and full excursions, which will include:
-Surf Snowdonia
-Zip World
-Bounce Below
Lots of other exciting and informative visits to regional towns, cities and places of interest
For individual and group students we have the following special options for drama, golf and intercultural learning to enhance their experience. These will take place during the afternoons.
We would like to appoint a new Summer School Director of Studies to lead our team of summer school teachers.
The Summer School Director of Studies will be responsible for helping to deliver a high-quality junior summer school programme as well as line-managing and supporting a team of teachers. This means ensuring the implementation, smooth running, administration and ultimately successful delivery of all aspects of the young learner programme. The Summer School DOS will play a key role in the summer school and is therefore expected to fulfil a demanding workload.

Education/training/qualifications (Essential)
- TEFL Q Status (Undergraduate Degree and Diploma-ELT/ TESOL qualification e.g. Delta/ Trinity Dip TESOL)
- Undergraduate Degree (2.1 or 1st Class)
- Initial ELT/ TESOL qualification e.g CELTA or Cert TESOL
- At least 3 years teaching experience some of which should have been gained abroad
- One year working in an EFL management role
- Previous experience of working in a summer school
- Previous experience of working with younger learners
Education/training/qualifications (Desirable)
- A qualification in teaching younger learners and/ or QTS status
- MA Applied Linguistics
- First Aid certificate or willingness to work towards one
- Safeguarding Children Level 1 Certificate or willingness to work towards one
- Enhanced DBS or CRB certificate
Knowledge (Essential)
- Good knowledge of the needs of younger learners
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
Knowledge (Desirable)
- A second language
Experience (Essential)
A minimum of three years teaching experience in toal to include:
- A minimum of 1 years ELT Management experience
- A minimum of 1 year teaching EFL abroad
- Testing and placement of students
- Observing teachers (with feedback)
Experience (Desirable)
- Course development and delivery
- CPD management and experience of delivering in-house teacher training
- Some experience of preparing for external inspections

- Experience of using School Management Platforms and Microsoft Office 365
- Experience of using Thebing school management system as a plus

- Eligible to live and work in the UK
The general responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

- Delivering in-house training sessions
- Maintaining and updating resources
- Contributing to course development
- Supporting the Centre Manager with the smooth day to day running of the summer school
- Recruiting additional teachers locally if required
- Timetabling
- Arranging cover
- Assisting with social activities
- Liaising with the DoS of the academy in Cardiff

Salary and Benefits

£500-£550 per week, plus board and accommodation
