This is a challenging but very rewarding post for the right person. There will be some weekend work and occasional late evenings at busy times, but this is balanced by a friendly, flexible working environment where everyone works together towards the same goals.
Details of Position
Oxford Spires Language School is a small but growing language school which operates international summer schools and short-term, year-round integration and EFL programmes for closed groups of young learners. Our small team is based in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, where we share an office with our sister company, Oxford Active.
Oxford Spires is British Council accredited and is also a member of English UK and Young Learners English UK.
The role is an unusual mix of routine administration, organising complex activity and teaching programmes, occasional high-pressure trouble-shooting, supporting the Academic Manager in a variety of tasks, plus semi-regular teaching throughout the year. During the summer months you will either take on the position of Centre Manager at one of our summer school locations or assist the Academic Manager in overseeing the general running of all the centres.
Make administrative and practical arrangements for the organisation of incoming groups, and the preparation of our summer centres, such as:
- organising and preparing group timetables
- organising transport
- working with the Administrative Assistant, where necessary, to prepare for student arrivals
- assisting or overseeing the setting up and packing away of programmes/centres
Organise and prepare necessary equipment and paperwork for language programmes
Prepare rotas and liaise with staff
Assist the Academic Manager in maintaining an orderly and smooth-running office environment
Undertake any other administrative duties relevant to the post
Liaise with our clients and partners
Lead staff or programme inductions
Assist the Academic Manager with recruiting Teachers and Activity Leaders
Visit schools to oversee language and activity programmes
Assist the Academic Manager with creating and/or editing academic and general materials and resources for all programmes
Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and relevant English lessons to a high standard
Delivery and marking of placement tests
Support language school Activity Leaders with afternoon activities, and accompany students on pre-arranged off-site excursions
Ensure students attend the set activities and attendance records are accurate
Maintain student behaviour, safety and welfare standards
Complete training as required, attend professional development, planning sessions and staff meetings
Undertake other duties, appropriate to your post, as may reasonably be required by the Oxford Spires management team
CELTA, CertTESOL or equivalent qualification
Excellent time-management and organisational skills
Good at working as part of a team, but also able, willing and experienced in using own initiative, thinking outside the box, and being one step ahead
Must have a flexible approach to the working day, with a cooperative, positive and responsible attitude
Ability to work in a high-pressure environment
Excellent spoken and written English language skills
Good computer skills, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Must be able to drive and have your own transport
Live locally or willing to relocate upon acceptance of position
All staff will be subject to safeguarding checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure
Previous experience of working with young students (aged 8-17)
Previous experience of working at a summer school and teaching mixed nationality classes
Previous office-based admin experience
Previous experience in a leadership role
DELTA, DipTESOL, PGCE or Masters in TEFL
Masters in TEFL
