Job Summary

The Academic Manager will have oversight of the academic and day-to-day running of the school. The main areas of responsibility are:
1 Student administration, welfare and academic monitoring
2 Teaching & Learning: teacher performance monitoring, CPD and recruitment
3 Quality assurance and maintenance of accreditation standards
4 Administration:organisation of the timetable and social events
5 Implementation and promotion of the philosophy of the school

Details of Position

The Academic Manager plays a key role within the school management structure. The post holder is expected to lead and manage a small team of teachers, to oversee teaching administration and to contribute to the development of the school.
We are looking to appoint an energetic and experienced Director of Studies/Academic Manager for our British Council accredited English language school in central London. The appointee will be responsible overall for the academic management of the school which involves oversight of teaching and learning, management of academic staff, delivery of high quality language instruction to students from around the world and ensuring that our language provision meets British Council accreditation criteria. This is a varied and exciting role for someone who is keen to be involved at a range of levels, from dealing directly with students to planning teacher CPD and implementing courses.
As well as being involved in the day-to-day running of the school, you may also be required to teach as necessary and to contribute to the improvement of the services we provide. The role would be ideal for an experienced and ambitious classroom practitioner or manager/administrator who is committed to excellence in teaching and can also demonstrate leadership qualities.


A first degree is essential as well as a Cambridge DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL or alternative post-graduate qualification. You will be proficient in English and will have taught English for at least 6 years.
Essential skills:
You will have some experience of working with young people as well as adults. The right candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as leadership and organisational skills. Problem solving ability, flexibility and a passion for language teaching are also key qualities that are needed for the role.
Experience or expertise in some or all of the following areas is desirable:
Academic management in an ELT or MFL environment
Course design: curriculum and syllabus writing
Delivery of teacher training and CPD
ICT eg Excel (although training can be given), Word, interactive language software

Salary and Benefits

Salaryfrom £28,000 to £32,000 depending on experience
