Our Kaplan Cambridge school is located in a very quiet and peaceful area of Cambridge. The school is housed in an old Victorian house, with 8 classrooms, Café, Study Centre and large garden. Its just a twenty minute walk along the river to the city centre, with easy access to the University College and museums. We offer a comprehensive range of English courses and provide accommodation in residence or with host families in Cambridge.
We are now recruiting a Study Centre Manager to join our team. You'll be responsible for ensuring that K+ extra study opportunities (online learning and study clubs) are a fully integrated part of the academic programme for both students and teachers. You will lead the delivery of K+ extra study opportunities to students, ensuring high quality standards and maximum student participation.
Staffing the Study Centre for either morning or afternoon sessions Monday to Friday depending on your teaching schedule
To encourage and promote the use of the centre through posters/liaison with teachers in order to increase participation in the K+ Programme and keep a record of student participation
To induct new students in the use of both online and offline study materials.
Be familiar with and able to help students access self-study materials through a range of media
To prepare, promote and run Study Centre Workshops in accordance with the agreed workshop timetable and monitor the use of the self-study centre
To run testing for late arrivals and to assist with Day One testing and induction when required.
To re-set passwords for students to access their online homework and structured study materials
To take responsibility for sourcing and purchase of new equipment and resources for the Study Centre within budget and to ensure that accurate records are kept of all resources
To train teachers in the use of on-line and off-line resources currently available in the Study Centre, and to induct new teachers
Manage an effective deposit-based system for lending materials to students and ensuring materials are returned
Ensure that the Study Centre is kept tidy, accessible and organised in such a fashion as to make it simple for students to use
To ensure the equipment is functioning and to liaise with IT about technical problems.
To liaise with the other Study Centre Manager to ensure material and equipment in the room is in good order and that stock is replenished and updated when required
To liaise with the DOS over Staffroom and Study Centre resources to ensure that materials are evenly distributed and not duplicated
To update staff on any study centre updates each week
To liaise with the Blended Learning Specialist on Blending Learning-related topics
To teach a variable lesson bank in agreement with the DoS of up to 21 hours per week dependent on time of year, duties and other circumstances
A bachelors degree as minimum
CELTA or equivalent
Experience in teaching
Understanding of developing learner autonomy
Experience of effective student counselling and tutorials
Knowledge of British Council and ISI inspection criteria
Skills and Competencies
Excellent IT skills, including use of technology in the classroom
Proven interest in and passion for blended learning and its benefits
Has a solution-based approach based on learners individual needs
High level of self-motivation
Excellent time management and organisational skills
Excellent communication skills
Ability to engage with students and drive up adoption of K+ extra study facilities and e-learning
High level of approachability and patience
Experience of materials development (desirable)
