Job Summary

LINES is a British Council accredited academic, residential summer school, offering intensive, academic English language courses for students from around the world.
If you are hard-working, dedicated, enthusiastic and energetic, with experience of working with and supporting young learners aged 6-18 years, we want to talk to you about our teaching and office based support roles! Contracts start on Friday 6th July, for up to 4 weeks, until Saturday 5th August.

Details of Position

Working at LINES offers an exciting opportunity for experienced EFL teachers to work in a fast paced, intensive, academic teaching environment. Our team teaching approach offers all staff the benefit of being able to learn and develop from each other, whilst working together to plan academic lessons, with a strong communicative output.

We also want to talk to teachers with the relevant skills, experience and qualifications, who want to progress their career in one of our busy Office-based roles, supporting staff and students across our sites.

We expect all teachers to take personal responsibility for planning and delivering creative, engaging academic classes and work as an integral part of the entire on-site team to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere so that students have fun learning and smiling in the same language!

Senior Teachers will be expected to support, guide and lead less experienced teachers in all aspects of teaching, including assistance with lesson planning and delivering weekly Professional Development sessions.

The following information applies to teachers who want to work with students aged 10-18 years old.

Teaching Hours: You will teach 24 hours per week, spread over 4 days, Monday-Friday. This is split into 12 hours of academic classes (with language and learning focused on a weekly theme), 6 hours of task-focused, themed workshops and 6 hours of tutorial per week, giving you a real opportunity to get to know your students as individuals.

Academic Classes (Mornings): These must adhere to the LINES Syllabus guidelines and weekly academic theme. You will share classes with your teaching partner, which means you plan one 1.5 hour academic lesson per day. Maximum class size is 10.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not have a large resource room stocked with books and materials. Instead, to encourage your creativity and ideas, teachers bring and share among the team their own materials and resources for the duration of the summer school.

Workshops (Afternoons): 6 hours per week of task-based, communicative classes designed for students to demonstrate language acquisition through completing a project or practical activity. You have individual responsibility for planning and delivering your Workshop sessions. Workshops include Film Production, Fashion Design, Popular Music, Drama as well as Exam Preparation, Creative Writing and Business English.

Academic Excursion: Once a week, you will go on an Academic Excursion, linked to the weekly theme. You will be responsible for planning a pre-excursion preparation lesson (part of your 6 hours of tutorials) and for managing your class group on the day, including getting them on and off coaches, taking registers and escorting them at all times.

Information for all Teachers:

Residential Duties: There are no residential duties, allowing you to focus on lesson planning and administrative duties in the evenings. You are responsible for escorting your classes to and from the dining room for lunch Monday-Friday and to eat with students at your allocated table, (lunch and dinner) as detailed on the weekly dining hall seating plan.

Other Duties: To attend all on-site evening meetings and a weekly Professional Development session. You must also ensure you complete all daily and weekly administrative duties, including registers, lesson plans, weekly and end of school student reports and student certificates.
You will normally be required to attend the weekly Friday evening Stage & Screen Show.
Your time off will start on Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. If leaving the site, you must be back on site by 3 pm on Sunday afternoon, for placement testing and associated office duties.
