Job Summary

Oxford International are looking to recruit personable and attentive Academic Events Managers to manage our British English Olympics (BEO) programme during Easter 2018 at one of our centres across the UK.

Details of Position

The British English Olympics (BEO) is a project run by Oxford International for international secondary school students aged 12 to 15, who compete against one another in a series of debates, presentations and performances. Alongside the competitions, students take part in a varied activity programme of cultural visits, sports and games.
The role of the Academic Event Manager is to ensure that professional and fair standards are maintained throughout the competition and that the competition guidelines are strictly adhered to by our staff and the teams. Key elements of the role are inducting and supporting competition judges, maintaining competition standards and overseeing the running of the competitions. As a member of the management team, you are expected to work closely with the Centre Manager to ensure the effective operation of the centre.
The ideal Academic Events Manager will hold a Trinity TESOL/CELTA qualification and a degree. Excel and technologically proficiency, exceptional inter-personal skills and attention to detail are also key.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that professional and fair standards are maintained throughout the competition & that the competition guidelines are strictly adhered to by all staff and the teams.
Support the competition judges & oversee smooth running of the whole competition.
Organise and oversee the delivery of a set of practical skills workshops.
Effectively rota staff and organise competition schedules.
Hold regular staff meetings prior to each competition to brief everyone involved.
Lead Staff Induction Days
Work closely with the Centre Manager, Activity Manager and BEO staff to ensure effective operation of the centre.
Attend group leader meetings and brief group leaders thoroughly during the programme.
Ensure timely set up of each competition.
Maintain competition administration.
Attend Senior Staff Training session and other preparation as required.
Read, understand and apply the BEO Guidelines, Staff Handbook and Student Welfare Manual.
Take part in Health and Safety related training
As an Academic Events Manager, you will work at one of the following centres on a residential basis (accommodation and meals provided for you at no cost to yourself).
Ardingly College, Sussex
Benenden School, Kent
Christ Hospital, West Sussex
Bradfield College, Reading
Start Date Details
Our Easter programme will run from 25th March - 11th April (certain venues may vary). We are looking for members of staff to work the full duration of this period.
If you feel that you do not quite fit our brief, we are also looking for Assistant Academic Event Managers to support the Academic Event Manager. The role requires an organised and IT proficient person that is out-going and happy to present in front of large audiences.
OIEG is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As part of our Safer
Recruitment policy you will be asked to explain any gaps in your work and education history. You
will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS Disclosure or overseas equivalent if you are based
outside of the UK. You will need to provide the details of at least 2 referees, who will be asked
specifically if they have any concerns about your suitability to work with children. Evidence of
entitlement to work in the UK will be required at interview.


You need to be:
Eligible to work in the UK.
You should have:
Ability and desire to work as a part of OIEG / BEO team with the aim of providing an excellent competition experience for all participating students and group leaders.
Ability and desire to deliver a unique academic product to the highest standard as detailed in the event guidelines.
Exceptional organisational skills to complete competition administration which requires high level of accuracy and a keen eye for detail.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Smart appearance and professional attitude at all times.

You must:
Be a native English speaker or have a near native level of English.
Have either a CELTA, Trinity TESOL and / or QTS in English or a Modern Foreign Language.
At least 3 years post qualification experience
At least 1 years experience of teaching junior learners
Demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate a team.

It would be great if you:
A degree, CELTYL or YL extension.
Post qualification teaching experience at B2 level and above.
Experience of being a senior staff member on a junior residential school programme.

Salary and Benefits

£450 per week plus acquired 12.07% holiday pay (£54.32) with full free boarding.
