Details of Position
Successful candidates will be required to teach 20-24 hours per week. In addition to teaching responsibilities, successful candidates will be required to complete administrative tasks including attendance records, testing and completion of end of course reports. Further roles may include the opportunity to participate in team-based curriculum development initiatives, to coordinate short-term teaching programmes, and to plan and deliver professional development sessions with assistance from senior or non-senior teaching staff.
The vast majority of classes offered by LELI are General English and English for the Workplace classes for adults ranging from Beginner to Upper-Intermediate level, however, there are also opportunities for teachers to provide 1-to-1 tuition for senior government officials and to work on IELTS preparation courses.
Successful candidates will be working as part of a large team comprising of 15 experienced EFL teachers, a Senior Teacher, a Director of Studies, and a supporting team of 4 managers working in Human Resources, Client Management, and Operations. In addition, Lorosa'e English Language Institute has a team of 8 Timorese language teachers teaching Tetun, Indonesian, and English from whom you may receive language training for the purposes of acculturation and professional development.

Our clients include a variety of government ministries and respected national institutions, prestigious international organizations, local businesses, and private individuals.
Students at LELI come from a variety of backgrounds, and many have had their education disrupted due to Timor-Lestes years of struggling for independence. The standard of education and the methodology most students have been exposed to means that some students have difficulty with modes of abstract thinking. In conjunction with building students English language proficiency, EFL teachers at LELI also help to develop students analytical and critical thinking through a range of different teaching strategies.
Living in a hot, remote location where infrastructure issues are commonplace requires teachers to be highly motivated and have a positive attitude so applicants should have the ability to cope with the challenges associated with living and working in a developing country.
Timor-Leste can be a challenging environment at times, but it is also a land of opportunity for those willing to invest their time and energy. The country is going through positive change and the successful candidate would be helping to make a genuine difference in the development of a nation that is rich in culture and history.
Applicants must be native English speakers and hold a passport from the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or New Zealand (visa requirement).
Experience working in a developing country is desirable.
Salary and Benefits
$2,000 - $3,000+ (net) per month depending on experience and client demand
20 days paid leave
