Director of Studies
Wimbledon School of English Junior Summer Centre
To be part of the Centre Management Team and manage all aspects of the Academic Programme including the Academic Excursion.
The successful candidate will be dynamic, professional and innovative. He/she will hold a first degree plus Cambridge DELTA or Trinity Diploma in Teaching English.

Details of Position

Wimbledon School of English was established in 1964 and is one of the oldest English language schools in the UK. It is consistently named by the EL Gazette as one of the top performing English language schools according to British Council inspection results.
We are looking to fill the position of Director of Studies at our established Junior Summer Centre based in Lord Wandsworth College on the Surrey/Hampshire border. We have up to 120 students (aged 11 to 16) per week with a good mixture of nationalities. The college itself is one of the largest boarding school campuses in Europe with outstanding sports facilities, which staff can use during their time off.
Our course will run from 8 July to 11 August, however you will be needed up to one month before the course starts.
The Director of Studies is directly responsible for the effective implementation of the academic programme ensure the Summer Centre maintains its reputation for having a high academic standard. You will lead a team of up to 10 experienced and less experienced teachers, supporting them in all aspects of their role, including lesson planning, materials selection, class management, testing and guiding them in new courses. Close liaison with the Centre Manager, Head of Welfare and Social Activities Manager will be required as part of the Course Management Team. You will be organised, accurate, and customer oriented and have good interpersonal and team-working skills.
Experience in a similar role essential.
Start date June 2018 (exact date to be agreed)
Responsibilities of the position include: , development of the curriculum, teacher development including classroom observations, induction and CPD provision, dealing with the pastoral and academic demands of students, cover teaching.

Qualifications

Essential:
Degree
Cambridge DELTA or Trinity Diploma in Teaching English
Experience of being a senior member on a junior residential programme
Proven ability to organise and manage workload productively
Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and organisational skills
Excellent people management and team building skills
Proven administrative and record keeping skills
Excellent IT skills
Experience with inspections from bodies such as Accreditation UK and ISI
A strong individual with a cheerful personality
Ability to work effectively under pressure
Flexibility and cultural awareness
Experience of curriculum development/course design
Experience of teaching a wide variety of courses and levels
Experience of summer programme CPD
Strong awareness of Safeguarding
Desirable:
First Aid trained
Full driving licence, own car and willingness to use for school business

Salary and Benefits

£575-600 per week gross (including holiday pay)
