Job Summary

House Parents needed for summer residential courses in top UK boarding schools. International students aged 8-17. From £440 per week + discretionary bonus + free board and lodging. Short contracts 3.5-5.5 weeks from late June/early July.

Discovery Summer is accredited by the British Council and runs residential summer courses for international students aged 8-17 at top UK boarding schools. The students have come to learn English, make new friends, try new activities, visit Britain and have a great time!
Many of our staff and students come back year after year. In 2017 we welcomed students of over 60 nationalities, 60% of our staff were returners and many recommend us to their friends.
House Parents are responsible for the smooth running of a house (of either boys or girls) and for the welfare of all resident course participants (students, English Student Hosts, staff, group leaders and Discovery Summer visitors). In conjunction with the Course Director, you will help to create a happy and homelike environment, where cultural sensitivities are respected and good discipline in maintained. You will also participate in the social programme, planning and running activities and excursions.
Contracts last for 3.5 5.5 weeks between 28 June -15 August.


Previous experience of working with children/teenagers in a residential setting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and genuinely enjoys working with young people
Ability to establish and maintain robust systems in a house
Full driving licence and own car and willingness to use for business purposes (Business insurance and mileage will be covered by Discovery Summer)
Pastoral/welfare experience
Good administrative skills
Holds or is studying towards a qualification in education or social care
First aid qualification (Discovery Summer will pay for a 1-day course if necessary)
Personal Skills
Organised, flexible, responsible and reliable
Professional, culturally aware and genuinely enjoys working with children/teenagers
Hardworking, creative, energetic and committed to professional growth and development
Confident in leading groups, and speaking in front of large groups of people
Can take initiative to ensure the student experience, their safety and welfare is at all times, the priority
Works well under pressure and can respond to situations calmly

Salary and Benefits

This is a residential post. You will work a 6 day week.
Salary from £440 gross per week + full board and accommodation + statutory holiday pay (12.07%) + discretionary bonus
