Footprint Valencia: Pocket Guide, First Edition by Mary-Ann Gallagher

Invaluable little gem
Without doubt this is one of the best city guides I have ever had the pleasure to stumble across. It\'s informative, witty and incredibly easy to navigate. Although tiny enough to carry around without even noticing a bulge in the pocket, its information was far more extensive than other guides I referred to, and the maps were easily the most lucid style I have found. Highly recommended.

Contemporary Spain: A Handbook by Christopher J. Ross

Useful
This handbook provides a good descriptive overview over a wide range of topics relevant to modern Spain. These include, amongst others, political institutions, regionalism, the economy, the environment and education. It thus equips the student with useful background knowledge and forms the basis upon which further detailed studies may proceed. Useful extras include a glossary of Spanish terms and their English translation and a short guide to further reading. This book is a good starting point!

Walking in Andalucia: The Best Walks in Southern Spain\'s Natural Parks by Guy Hunter-Watts

How Walking Guides Should Be
The route descriptions are comprehensive and consistent - none of the vague descriptions found in many guides when the going gets tricky. The maps used are based on the latest IGN 1:50,000 edition which really are good. Background information also proved very useful.
The book includes some 32 routes distributed throughout the natural parks of Aracena, Grazalema, Los Alcornocales, La Axarquia, La Alpujarra & Cazorla.
Although we only used the guide around Grazalema familiarity with La Alpujarra & Cazorla gives great confidence in the reliability of the guide elsewhere.
Highly recommended

Stories from Spain by Genevieve Barlow, William N. Stivers

A good book for all stages
This book is not only a real help in coming to grips with a new language but also useful for those wishing to improve accuracy in written Spanish. Having the English translation next to the Spanish text means that your\'e not constantly looking up dictionaries, so you can actually enjoy reading the stories. The stories show the rich cultural and historical side of this vast and interesting country, making the learning process a whole lot more practical too.
