" I am a vigorous and healthy and energetic female, 65 years of age. I am just retiring from the nursing field, where I have done much work with adolescents and children with psychiatric disorders. My degree is an Associate Degree in Nursing. I have excellent communication and teaching skills as patient care calls for this, especially with children and adolescents. 1. Is age a barrier to traveling and teaching English? 2. Are my former professional qualifications as a Registered Nurse who has taken State Boards and is Licensed in the USA, sufficient to permit a TEFL certification course. "

    EFL Teacher
    Istra School
Location Istra, Moscow Region, Russian Federation
    Deadline Tuesday 30. September 2014
    Experience 2 years
Istra School (Istra, Moscow region, Russia) is looking for talented and experienced EFL teacher from the UK, who is ready to start ASAP.
We are a small, privately-owned school in Istra, a nice and quiet town, the pearl of Moscow Region, just outside Moscow (1 hour by train). Thanks to its location, Istra offers great opportunities to explore the Russian capital as well as nearby ancient towns such as Zvenigorod and Volokolamsk. Istra itself boasts a splendid New Jerusalem Monastery and is an ideal place for those who are interested in the Russian culture and lifestyle. The school staff and students are very friendly and always ready to help and spend time with foreign teachers.
Since 2005 Istra school offers courses of general, business and conversational English to adults, teens and children from 5 yo. We offer them training programs for any level of competence in a foreign language in open groups or individual trainings and we would like to find teachers who could cope with these duties successfully. We work hard to maintain good level of education and a cosy atmosphere at school. Our classrooms are well-equipped and the school provides teachers with a wide range of books and extra resourses as well as all-round support. Each classroom is equiped with PC and projector.
"Having lived in Istra for the past 9 months, I can say with all certainty that this is not what one would expect Russia to be like. Firstly, we are surrounded by warm and loving co-workers who are always willing to help whether it be translating 'baking powder' to Russian or booking tickets to a concert in Moscow. The support from our boss, Tatiana has been second to none, if we need anything at all she will help us with all her power. Our experience here has been largely positive and it's predominately because of them. Having survived what my students call the mildest Winter they've ever seen, I can say that Russian Winters are just as bad as their reputation, bring warm clothes! Then again, being from Australia, what would you expect.
If you're considering this position, I imagine you'd like to know a little about the practicalities. Istra is a quaint little town about 53 minutes by train to the nearest Metro stop in Moscow. It's surrounded mostly by forests, a river, lake, and the famous monastery. There are small corner stores riddled all over, a main central market with everything from fish and vegetables to fur coats and shoe polish, a few chain supermarkets and a large-ish supermarket called Atak. We do have to walk to work, but it's only about 9 minutes away on foot. The area is very safe, accommodating mostly middle-upper class families. My wife and I have never felt unsafe walking around the little town. There are a few cafes, pubs, and restaurants walking distance away. The apartment it very nice with 2 bedrooms, bathroom (with huge bathtub), kitchen, and balcony with a gorgeous view of the river and monastery. We have had no real issues with the apartment at all!
All in all we've had a great experience here, even though it was only for 9 months."
