      Scientific English in China
"I am a retired Ph.D.biologist with considerable authoring experience. I presently teach conversational English at a private colege level institution near Shanghai.I would like to stay in China, and to that end seek a position in a biomedical institution where my experience as author -- of scientific papers, and of more mundane works --and scientist can be utilized. This might be teaching a course in "Scientific English", or editing biomedical papers written by Chinese authors for publication in English peer reviewed journals, or searching the (US) National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE database on behalf of biomedical research organizations or researchers. Can you advise me how I might get in touch with organizations or individuals who could use the services I propose. "

Imaginative? Well-informed? Teach with us online or join us in St. Petersburg, Russia.
    FORM Saint Petersburg
Location Saint Petersburg, Russia and online, Russian Federation
    Deadline Sunday 31. August 2014
    Experience 2 years

Teach English in St Petersburg, Russia or online from wherever you may be. Lessons in St Petersburg may take place in our central offices (39 Rimskogo Korsakova) or at various locations across the city. We teach lessons for individuals and groups of up to 10 students. Our classes, are generally focused on task-based learning and we use our own learning management platform to log information for students The platform runs on laptops and tablets and lets teachers create and share lesson plans, model grammar structures in class, assign and mark homework online. We rarely use textbooks, instead choosing to focus on structured conversation, projects, and games in lessons.

Issuing an invitation for a visa takes approximately one month. For UK nationals, the visa can then be applied for in either London or Edinburgh. The current cost for a three-month working visa starts at 76.60 GBP, paid for by the teacher. You can find more information about the processing cost, times, and required docs at http://ru.vfsglobal.co.uk/Tourist_visafees.html

In addition to your visa, teachers are required to submit an HIV test along with their visa application. This usually takes one week to issue. Please note that the authorities insist on the original document.

Once you have arrived in Russia, your three-month visa can be extended to a full year. This extension will be paid for and submitted by the school upon successful completion of two months probation.

Please note that the process of issuing a visa takes a minimum of 4 weeks so arrival is usually 8 weeks from the date of your application.

Upon arrival in Saint Petersburg, you will be offered the choice to stay in an apartment until your find your own accommodation, this is not included in the salary and so will have to be paid for. We will do our best to help you secure accommodation in the city.

To give you an idea of costs, you should be aiming not to spend more than 20000 a month on accommodation. There are Dormitories with communal living here as cheap as just a few thousand, you'd be spending between 10-15 for a decent house share, and anything above 20 will secure you your own place.

    University graduate
    CELTA qualified
    2+ years experience

We are looking for imaginative teachers to join us in Saint Petersburg and online. The earliest start date for teachers coming to Russia is the 15th August 2014. We are always interested in talking with experienced online teachers so please get in touch if you are interested in working with us.

Online rates for 60-minute lessons are:

650 RUB for general and exam training
    500 RUB for conversational training

For teachers coming to Saint Petersburg we offer base salaries of up to 40 000 RUB pcm, depending on experience and qualifications.

    Your salary provides for:

30 academic hours of teaching a week (15 lessons)
5 hours of planning, marking time
    Travel time between lessons

Given that the salaried position is based on working approximately 3 lessons a day, there are plenty of opportunities for overtime. All lessons taught beyond the contracted number of hours will be compensated at 500 RUB per academic hour (with no additional compensation for planning time).

If a teacher teaches fewer than the contracted 30 academic hours per week, the school reserves the right to:

    - carry the remaining hours into the following week/s
    - request that the teacher make up their hours for that week by assisting in the development of materials
