    Minimum requirements for employment with TECS
    • College/University Bachelor’s Degree or higher
    • CELTA certificate (pass B preferred) or equivalent
    • At least 1 year’s experience in full time classroom EFL teaching
    • At least 2 professional and personal references
    • E.U. passport or Spanish residence/work permit
    • Police disclosure attesting to suitability to work with minors

    TECS commits to offering our teachers:
    • On-going in-house and external teacher development opportunities with costs covered by TECS:
    1. TECS pays enrolment fees and covers all transport costs for all staff who attend teacher training conferences and supports and sponsors teachers who wish to give talks in these teacher training conferences.
    2. We also offer in-house development sessions throughout the year led by our management staff, teachers or guest speakers.
    3. And TECS sponsors in part any further professional training (e.g.: DELTA) that returnee staff wish to undertake.
    • Unlimited use of TECS EFL resources: We have an extensive TEFL library with both digital and hard-copy reference and resource materials.
    • Access to the latest technology: TECS provides internet access to our teachers for downloading EFL resources and for completing course plans online through our website. We also have an audiovisual/computer rooms and laptops and projectors at our teachers’ disposal for use in class and an interactive whiteboard in our main centre in El Puerto de Santa María.
    • Training in Cambridge and Trinity ESOL Exam procedure and preparation led by our in-house External Exams Coordinator: Since we have a high percentage of students sitting official exams each year we train all our teachers in the level testing and preparation of students for official exams.
    • Teacher support via observation and feedback sessions: all teachers are observed throughout the academic year by TECS management and are given feedback following the observation. In addition, we are proud to have a very effective peer observation structure in place which allows all teachers to observe one or more of their peers teaching during the year.
    • Group Spanish lessons free of charge: hour and a half long lessons twice a week in the mornings in our main centre in El Puerto de Santa María.
    • Official Spanish contract from either 15 September or 1 October 2014 to June 12th, 2015 with full Social Security coverage (full unemployment, hospitalization and pension benefits paid in by TECS).
    • Paid vacation days are all national and municipal bank holidays plus Christmas and Easter breaks and 2 days for local festivities such as Feria or Carnaval.

    Salaries for full time teachers at TECS for the 2014-2015 school year range from 863€ to 1368€ GROSS per month.
    • A teacher’s monthly NET wage depends on three things: the number of contact teaching hours they work, their qualifications and experience and the amount withheld for taxes which is dependent on their particular tax exemptions.
    * There is also a bonus scheme in place to reward teacher initiative and innovation
    • Our administrative department and legal counsel are at the disposal of our employees for any assistance or clarification they may need regarding their contracts, pay slips or tax filing procedures.

    There are several commonsense factors you should consider when applying for a post, attending an interview or working abroad.

  • An interview should always be arranged in daylight hours.
  • If the job appears to be "too good to be true", it probably is. Fully research the employer via web forums, search engines and previous employees. Most reputable employers should be happy to put you in touch with previous/current staff.
  • As previously stated, no reputable employer will ask you for money (even for a visa, work-permit etc.). If a tefl.com advertiser does ask you for payment, refuse and contact us immediately.

  • Register with your embassy as soon as you arrive in the host country.

  • Your safety is paramount. If you feel uneasy with any part of the application procedure or interview, walk away!

    Going abroad...
  • Get travel insurance and check that the cover is appropriate.
  • Check what vaccinations you need at least 6 weeks before you go and consider whether you need to take extra health precautions
  • Ensure you have a valid passport that is in good condition and the necessary visas.
  • Make copies of your passport (including any visa pages), insurance policy plus 24-hour emergency number, and ticket details. Leave these copies, your itinerary and contact details with family and friends.
  • Take enough money for your trip and some back-up funds eg travellers cheques, sterling or US dollars.
