|LINES Languages is an English language residential summer school provider, offering intensive English language and activity programmes to international students aged 10-18. Working at LINES Languages is an exciting opportunity. |
The director of studies is responsible for the medium- short term operational management of the academic department. This involves coordinating the students and teaching team, resources and curriculum. The DOS develops and guides staff professionally and is supportive of student needs.
LINES provides an exciting summer teaching and learning environment to experienced EFL teachers. Our team-teaching approach offers staff the opportunity to develop their own practice by learning from their colleagues. In addition to this, weekly professional development workshops are offered and the practice of alternative methodologies is encouraged.
Duties and responsibilities including but not limited to:
•Is present as a member of the forward party and is responsible for the setting up (and closing down) of the academic department
•Coordinates the academic staff; Academic Administrator, teachers.
•Liaises with Excursions Officer over the efficiency of the excursion programme.
•Monitors the students’ academic placement, progress, achievement.
•Ensures the academic programme is being delivered to the highest standard and reports any concerns for actions.
•Conducts the ‘Stage and Screen Night’.
•Alerts Operations Manager if any materials or resources are required or need replacing.
•Coordinates the testing of new students.
•Observes all teachers in class at least once and provides constructive feedback & carries out appraisals
•Holds weekly teachers’ meeting.
•Is on hand to support teachers with course programmes.
•Is responsible for ensuring all materials/ resources needed for the workshops are available.
•Ensures all academic notices are displayed.
•Liaises with CM concerning students’ welfare.
•Updates on the students’ academic placement, progress and achievement.
•Conducts the inventory of academic materials at the end of the summer under guidance from Operations Manager
•Reports any grievances to the CM.
|Essential Qualifications: |
Degree (Bsc or BA) (any discipline)
Masters in Education or relevant subject
CELTA or TESOL
Director or Studies (preferably ELT environment or Summer School)
Working with U18 year olds
Running CPD workshops
Classroom observations & staff appraisals
Managing a team
Planning and delivering communicative and task-based classes
Lesson Planning (structured)
Designing and marking exams
Utilising CEFR (Common European Framework References)
Experience in delivering workshops with a specific focus (Business, Legal, Science, Drama, Film, media, British Culture, Creative Writing & Cambridge Exams)
Skills and Personal Qualities:
A native English speaker (Preferably)
An interest in developing professionally
EU national preferred
|£500 p/w plus holiday (£44.87 p/w)|
