    Details
TLC - The Turner Learning Center

TLC specializes in offering a high academic enrichment English language program to both native and non native speakers between the ages of 7 to 18+.

Teachers are expected to work from 9th September 2013 to the 4th July 2014 excluding the French national Paris region school holidays - On our website the school calendar is available for consultation. Teachers hired after the beginning of our school year will be expected to work from the date of their first class until their last class scheduled.

We teach in the Paris region and surrounding suburbs in the comforts of our student's homes. We timetable our classes so that teachers have convenient schedules and limit travel time to the minimum. Our schedules are planned and fixed for the entire academic year. Depending on specialism, experience and teacher's availabilities we offer between 10 to 20 hours a week of classes per teacher. Our timetabling is extremely compatible with teachers already working in the French school system as well as the corporate English sector. TLC offers most of their classes between 17:00-19:30 every evening with all day Wednesday and Saturday possibilities.

TLC assesses their students thoroughly and thus is able to set clear achievable academic goals for the teachers to deliver and students to achieve. We provide all the necessary pedagogy and training for our different programs as well as class delivery support.

Our students are extremely motivated and committed to learning English to a high standard. Those who are native speakers are benchmarked to the British national school curriculum expectations. Our EFL students achieve A2 level at the age of 10 - B2 level at the age of 14 and C2 level at the age of 18. Our English mother tongue students are able to validate any of the British literacy attainment targets whereas our EFL students validate their level by taking various curriculum based Cambridge Esol exams.

TLC has a long term career plan for dedicated teachers which includes financial, managerial and certified professional development.

    Qualifications
TLC - The Turner Learning Center is hiring qualified English teachers:

    ‣ who are English language mother tongue speakers or could be considered as mother tongue speakers
    ‣ with a French work permit for non EU citizens that is at least valid until July 2014
    ‣ with university qualifications
    ‣ who are TEFL or CELTA trained

    ‣ where a bachelor of education (with QTS) or PGCE is rewarded
    ‣ where experience of ESOL exams is desirable
    ‣ where fluent French is needed for some of our courses

    Compensation
TLC - The Turner Learning Center

Teachers working for TLC hold either a CDD work contract or, if they wish, are registered as independent.

The CDD contract includes French national health insurance with an attractive hourly wage depending on the following criteria bringing the net salary up to 21 euros the hour:

    ‣ experience
    ‣ qualifications
    ‣ number of hours working with TLC
    ‣ number of years working with TLC
    ‣ TLC teaching position if senior
    ‣ quality and promtness of class reporting
    ‣ presentation of class preparation
    ‣ completion of contract until the last class scheduled
    ‣ training attendance if deemed necessary

Independent teachers have the same wage conditions but can see their hourly rate reach 32 euros per hour taught.
They are however expected to provide TLC with an "attestation de vigilance" every trimester ensuring that they have settled their social taxes which provides them with social insurance coverage.

There are several commonsense factors you should consider when applying for a post, attending an interview or working abroad.
  • Do not provide any banking or credit card information when applying for a job.
  • If you are concerned about divulging your home address in your resume, consider using a post office box or similar forwarding address.
  • When attending a job interview, if you feel in any way uncomfortable with the situation or the person/s you are dealing with, walk away. Also consider your work location, do you feel it is safe? Would you be happy to work there late at night?
  • Always let a friend know that you are attending an interview, when and where. acquaint yourself fully with how to get to the interview and how to get back.
  • An interview should always be arranged in daylight hours.
  • If the job appears to be "too good to be true", it probably is. Fully research the employer via web forums, search engines and previous employees. Most reputable employers should be happy to put you in touch with previous/current staff.
  • As previously stated, no reputable employer will ask you for money (even for a visa, work-permit etc.). If a tefl.com advertiser does ask you for payment, refuse and contact us immediately.
  • As a TEFL.com member your resume contact details are not in the public domain. Only registered employers can view your resume (contact details removed) via our resume search engine. If an employer wishes to view your contact details they are required to use a "ResumeView". Our system logs all resumes viewed by the employer. You can also check as to which employers have viewed your resume at http://www.tefl.com/career/rv_history.html or by clicking on "Who's viewed my resume" within your account page.
  • Register with your embassy as soon as you arrive in the host country.

  • Your safety is paramount. If you feel uneasy with any part of the application procedure or interview, walk away!

    Going abroad...
  • Get travel insurance and check that the cover is appropriate.
  • Check what vaccinations you need at least 6 weeks before you go and consider whether you need to take extra health precautions
  • Ensure you have a valid passport that is in good condition and the necessary visas.
  • Make copies of your passport (including any visa pages), insurance policy plus 24-hour emergency number, and ticket details. Leave these copies, your itinerary and contact details with family and friends.
  • Take enough money for your trip and some back-up funds eg travellers cheques, sterling or US dollars.
