Director of Studies - Academic Management Opportunities Thames Valley Summer Schools
|
Location |
Epsom, Surrey, United Kingdom | | Deadline |
Monday 27. May 2013 |
|
Experience
| 2 years | | Details | Would you like to work for a reputable British Council accredited summer school located in some of the UK's top independent schools? Would you like to be supported in your role as part of the academic management team, and work with like-minded, dedicated individuals?
For the past 39 years, we've been helping young people from all over the world to improve their command of English. During this time, over 55,000 students have spent the summer with us and, in the process, have enjoyed a complete English experience.
They've sampled our culture, visited many of our famous landmarks and, above all, discovered that learning a language can be enormous fun.
All languages are constantly changing and English is no exception. With this in mind, we go to great lengths to make sure that our courses are constantly being updated, to make sure that students learn the most current form of English, and that it’s learnt in the most stimulating and enjoyable way.
We take enormous care in choosing our centres. Only prestigious boarding schools are considered and we look at everything they have to offer - from their location through to their range of facilities. In addition, our summer schools could hardly be better situated. Whichever centre you choose, you'll find yourself within easy reach of some of England's most historic towns and cities.
• Epsom College
• Oundle School
• Rugby School
• Sevenoaks School
• Tonbridge School
In overall charge of each centre is a Course Director, whose job it is to ensure the successful management of the course. The Recreation Director has responsibility for planning and delivering the recreation programme with assistance from specialist recreation staff. Unlike many other summer schools in the UK, a Senior Housemaster/mistress liaises with the Housemasters/mistresses to ensure boarding houses run efficiently. The Director of Studies is responsible for the effective management of the academic programme with assistance from the Senior Teacher. The combined staff to student ratio is 1 : 5, which includes specialist recreation staff.
| | Qualifications | We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Director of Studies for our centre at Epsom College, who wishes to work in a professional and supportive environment. The position starts on 1 July. You'll be responsible for the academic management of our course and benefit from working with experienced returning senior staff (an average 50% senior staff return to us each year).
Director of Studies
- Preferably DELTA/DipTESOL qualified (or equivalent), though very experienced CELTA/Cert.TESOL candidates will be considered
- Experience of preparing students for EFL examinations, preferably Trinity
- Academic management experience
- Excellent administration skills
- Summer school experience desirable
You'll get lots of support to help you prepare - a briefing prior to the start of the course, a Director of Studies Handbook for guidance and also regular contact with the Director of Education & Recruitment based at the Windsor head office. In addition to this, you'll have access to an extensive range of ELT resources.
Please note that only British Council recognised qualifications will be accepted.
We undertake checks on all our senior staff with regard to their suitability to work with students under 18.
EU national preferred
| | Compensation | We offer competitive salaries and terms and conditions, with extra incentives for returning staff.
Director of Studies salary:
From £450 per week (plus £56.06 statutory holiday pay) to £475 per week (plus £57.57 statutory holiday pay).
• All residential staff receive free full-board accommodation.
• Statutory holiday pay (12.12%) is paid in addition to your salary.
• We provide a staff to student ratio of 1 : 5.
• There are pre-course inductions to make sure you are fully prepared, and handbooks for reference throughout the course.
• Our Young Learner courses take place in some of the UK’s top boarding schools, where you’ll have access to the high quality facilities.
• There’s a Director of Studies and a Senior Teacher at each centre, to manage the academic programme and support EFL teachers.
• Housemasters/mistresses will be in charge of welfare and boarding houses. Teachers will just need to help them when they’re on duty, rather than be responsible for a house on set evenings like in many other summer schools.
In addition, for employees of Thames Valley Summer Schools who know of any friends or colleagues who would make a good team member, we offer £100 for every introduction which leads to TVSS successfully employing the person as a member of staff.
