| Not applicable | | Positions | 19 | | Details | The Director of Studies (DOS) key responsibility is the implementation, smooth running, administration and, ultimately, successful delivery of all aspects of the Summer School Academic Programme. The role is a Senior Management position therefore the DOS is expected to fulfil a demanding workload.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Implementation and overall day-to-day management of all aspects of the academic programme
To manage the teaching staff to create a positive, enthusiastic team to deliver a high quality programme ensuring student satisfaction
To lead the Induction Day for EFL Teachers
To observe and appraise all teaching staff providing support and guidance on all aspects of lesson preparation and delivery
Time-tabling classes
To organise and manage the placement and exit testing of students, academic time-tabling, course planning, student questionnaire analysis and student certificate delivery
Monitoring teaching staff levels to ensure that the appropriate staffing levels are maintained
To run weekly Planning Workshops for all teachers
To ensure that all lessons start and end on time
To check class registers on a daily basis to ensure against student absenteeism
To source materials for the excursion lesson and help teachers in planning this lesson prior to an excursion
To organise and oversee the delivery of Trinity exams (if applicable at centre)
To liaise closely with the Academic Director/Assistant Academic Director maintaining all academic administration
To deal with any student or Foreign Group Leader queries on academic matters
To teach when required to meet operational demands
To liaise with the Head of Sports/Activities (HSA) to ensure that the activities programme and academic programme are integrated successfully
To support the Centre Director to aid the smooth and effective running of the centre
To assist the Centre Director to set up and close the centre
To help ensure that Ardmore Language School’s Health & Safety policies are implemented and adhered to at all times
WORKING WEEK
The DOS will work 16 sessions (48 hours) based on a 21 session week (1 session = 3 hours.The DOS reports directly to the Centre Director and Academic Director (based in HO)
| | Qualifications | ESSENTIAL:
Mother tongue English speaker, minimum CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL / PGCE TEFL
First Degree
Minimum of 2 years’ teaching experience
Ability to lead and manage an academic team
Ability to mentor and guide newly qualified teachers
Excellent communication skills
Proven leadership skills
Excellent organisational skills
Smart personal appearance
Ability to work effectively under pressure
RECOMMENDED:
Diploma level qualified* (DELTA or Dip TESOL)
Previous summer school experience
Previous residential experience
Previous experience in continuous enrolment courses
*In the absence of Diploma qualification (DELTA) or similar qualifications; experience in the field of academic management will be reviewed and considered.

*Weekly salary will be set after interview stage depending on size of centre and experience / qualifications of successful candidate.

Going abroad...
Get travel insurance and check that the cover is appropriate.
Check what vaccinations you need at least 6 weeks before you go and consider whether you need to take extra health precautions
Ensure you have a valid passport that is in good condition and the necessary visas.
Make copies of your passport (including any visa pages), insurance policy plus 24-hour emergency number, and ticket details. Leave these copies, your itinerary and contact details with family and friends.
Take enough money for your trip and some back-up funds eg travellers cheques, sterling or US dollars.
