    EFL Teacher

    The EFL Teacher’s key responsibility is the preparation, co-ordination and teaching of English as part of the academic programme. All EFL Teachers report directly to the Director of Studies (DOS) and work with them closely to assist in the student testing, timetabling, progress monitoring and administration of EFL classes. For many students, this may be their first visit to England. It is of particular importance that all students enjoy their classroom experience so that they return home even more enthusiastic and committed to learning English.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Teaching and Academic:
    To teach 30 hours per week
    Arrive punctually for classes (i.e. before the lesson begins)
    To assist the DOS with student testing and placement
    To teach English to a high standard following the syllabus set out in the Ardmore Language Schools’ workbooks and academic programme
    All teaching materials and lesson plans are provided for teachers, therefore preparation time is not expected to be too onerous
    To prepare and deliver lessons with the aim of achieving the objectives and outcomes of the Ardmore Language Schools’ syllabus
    To use teaching techniques that are appropriate to the level and needs of the students making every effort to create a positive learning environment enabling students to participate purposefully in the lessons
    To make lessons stimulating and enjoyable with particular emphasis on the practical use of the English language (eg speaking and listening skills)
    To administer and mark course assessments tasks as well as marking placement and exit tests
    To maintain excellent class administration including lesson preparation, class registration and monitoring student progress
    To advise the DOS of any student who is misbehaving in class, absent from lessons; or any student welfare concerns (eg bullying, students who are withdrawn, not joining in) with particular attention to individual students
    To ensure that, in the lesson prior to an excursion, students are prepared and informed about their forthcoming excursion (eg class discussion, handouts etc)
    To complete individual student Progress Reports and issue final Certificates to students
    To be willing to share best practice with colleagues

    OTHER DUTIES
    To accompany and supervise students on a full day excursion (when necessary, on a rota basis)
    Respond to general emergencies at all times
    To maintain proper levels of student behaviour, safety and welfare when on duty

    Qualifications
    QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

    ESSENTIAL:

    CELTA or Trinity TESOL and/or BEd or PGCE*
    First Degree*
    Aged 18 or over
    Eligible to live and work in the UK
    Mother tongue English speaker
    Experience of teaching junior students
    Excellent communication skills
    Flexibility and adaptability
    Ability and desire to work as part of a team
    Enthusiastic
    Punctual
    Organised

    *Other TEFL qualifications (validated by an external body to include a minimum of six hours’ observed teaching practice) and considerable experience in the field of EFL teaching will be reviewed and considered.

    WORKING WEEK

    The EFL Teacher will work 14 sessions (42 hours) based on a 21 session week 1 session = 3 hours)
    The EFL Teacher reports directly to the Director of Studies (DOS)

    EFL TEACHER with CELTA / TRINITY TESOL plus DEGREE
    £320 - £370 pw*

    *Weekly salary will be set after interview stage depending on size of centre and experience / qualifications of successful candidate.

    Full board and accommodation is included for all residential staff free of charge.

    If you hold a current first aid certificate you will receive an additional £15 per week

  • Check what vaccinations you need at least 6 weeks before you go and consider whether you need to take extra health precautions

  • Make copies of your passport (including any visa pages), insurance policy plus 24-hour emergency number, and ticket details. Leave these copies, your itinerary and contact details with family and friends.
