Cheltenham Ladies College; Young Cheltenham (30th of June to 4th of August, ages 8 to 12), Cheltenham Teenagers (30th of June to 4th of August, ages 12 to 17): Kingston University; Young Kingston (30th June to 18th August, ages 10 to 14), Kingston Teenagers (30th June to 18th August, ages 14 to 18): Oxford Brookes University (16th June to 18th August, ages 14 to 18): Plymouth College (7th July to 12th August, ages 10 to 17).
Students are residential, have 20 lessons of English a week and participate in a full morning or afternoon and evening programme of activities and excursions. Classes range from beginner to advanced level based on modern mainstream course books. We are also recruiting activity staff for our summer centres.
See our website (www.angloeuropean.org) for full details of centre locations and course description.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CAN ONLY CONSIDER APPLICATIONS FROM EU NATIONALS OR PEOPLE ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF A FULL TIME WORKING VISA/PERMIT.
ANGLO EUROPEAN SCHOOL OF ENGLISH CANNOT ENTER INTO ANY APPLICATIONS FOR WORK PERMITS OR SPONSORSHIP.
Main Duties And Working Hours
Residential Teachers
The standard teaching/supervisory programme involves 48 hours each week, comprising teaching of twenty 50 minute lessons each week (16.7 hours) over 5 mornings or afternoons and the balance in supervisory duties in the residence, escorting students on excursions, participating in sports and activities, dealing with students' needs generally as they arise and non-teaching academic duties as well as attending staff meetings and teacher development sessions. 28 hours is allocated for supervisory duties and 3.3 hours for meetings etc. Staff will have one day off a week.
At induction, teachers can indicate whether they wish to be included in the list of staff who would like to be offered additional work to maximise earnings. This will enable the Centre Manager to take this into account as early as possible in the planning of weekly timetables.
Non-Residential Teachers
The minimum non-residential teaching/supervisory programme comprises twenty 50 minute lessons each week (16.7 hours), over 5 mornings or afternoons and 2.3 hours at the supervisory rate, paid as an allowance for staff meetings etc. The standard timetable of 37 hours a week also offers an additional 18 hours of non-teaching/supervisory duties each week although this is not guaranteed. There may be variations on this format with teachers undertaking additional teaching or non-teaching/supervisory duties as available on either a regular or occasional basis and by agreement with the Centre Manager.
At induction, applicants can indicate if they would like to be included in the list of staff who would like to be offered additional work. When classes are held in both the morning and afternoon, teachers can agree to increase the teaching component and reduce the non-teaching component to maximise earnings.
| | Qualifications | Applicants should be: CELTA, Trinity TESOL or B.Ed (modern languages) qualified teachers. We especially welcome PGCE qualified teachers of Modern Languages at Young Cheltenham based at Cheltenham Ladies College. Other qualifications meeting British Council recognised junior course standards will also be considered. Weekend TEFL courses and on-line courses with no observed teaching practice do not meet British Council standards and will not be considered. Experience of teaching juniors on a residential course would be beneficial but enthusiasm, motivation and being part of a team are just as important. We welcome newly qualified teachers looking for a first teaching position who can demonstrate that they can be a valuable member of the team. We also welcome teachers who are only available for shorter work periods starting at the end of June or the beginning of July.

There are several commonsense factors you should consider when applying
for a post, attending an interview or working abroad.
Do not provide any banking or credit card information when applying
for a job.
If you are concerned about divulging your home address in your resume,
consider using a post office box or similar forwarding address.
When attending a job interview, if you feel in any way uncomfortable
with the situation or the person/s you are dealing with, walk away. Also
consider your work location, do you feel it is safe? Would you be happy
to work there late at night?
Always let a friend know that you are attending an interview, when and
where. acquaint yourself fully with how to get to the interview and how
to get back.
An interview should always be arranged in daylight hours.
If the job appears to be "too good to be true", it probably is. Fully
research the employer via web forums, search engines and previous
employees. Most reputable employers should be happy to put you in touch
with previous/current staff.
As previously stated, no reputable employer will ask you for money
(even for a visa, work-permit etc.). If a tefl.com advertiser does ask
you for payment, refuse and contact us immediately.
As a TEFL.com member your resume contact details are not in the public
domain. Only registered employers can view your resume (contact details
removed) via our resume search engine. If an employer wishes to view
your contact details they are required to use a "ResumeView". Our system
logs all resumes viewed by the employer. You can also check as to which
employers have viewed your resume at
http://www.tefl.com/career/rv_history.html or by clicking on "Who's
viewed my resume" within your account page.
Register with your embassy as soon as you arrive in the host country.
Your safety is paramount. If you feel uneasy with any part of the
application procedure or interview, walk away!
Going abroad...
Get travel insurance and check that the cover is appropriate.
Check what vaccinations you need at least 6 weeks before you go and consider whether you need to take extra health precautions
Ensure you have a valid passport that is in good condition and the necessary visas.
Make copies of your passport (including any visa pages), insurance policy plus 24-hour emergency number, and ticket details. Leave these copies, your itinerary and contact details with family and friends.
Take enough money for your trip and some back-up funds eg travellers cheques, sterling or US dollars.
