MASTERS OR TEFL CERTIFICATE?
"I would like to know what the best route to take by either obtaining a master degree in tefl or to first obtain the tefl certificate and gain teaching experience and later a tefl master's degree. All the information that I have found is a little confusing and I need some information that will help me to decide the best option. Ultimately, I would like to teach preferably in France but any French speaking country would be great. "

THE COMPANY
Shane English School Wuxi, China offers you the opportunity to experience the fascinating and wildly different culture of China first hand with the support and expertise of one of the largest British owned EFL organizations in Asia. Shane English School was established in Japan in 1977 and now has more than 400 schools worldwide including over 40 schools throughout China and employs hundreds of academic and non-academic staff. At present, SESC teaches over 25000 students.
THE CITY
Wuxi is located in Jiangsu province only minutes from Shanghai, Suzhou and Nanjing by train and so provides the best of both worlds. Wuxi provides the benefits of living and working in China with its low cost of living, great food and many attractions nearby. Its large and still growing expat community has seen excellent foreign bars, restaurants and shopping spring up over the last five years.
THE STUDENTS
Teachers at SESC enjoy the opportunity to teach students of all ages and abilities, from three year old children to young professionals in companies. Students are grouped by age as well as ability with a maximum of 16 students per class for younger learners and 12 for adult learners.
COURSES
SESC provides tailored courses for every age group varying in difficulty according to the students' needs.
The focus, however, is always on providing an immersive environment in which to learn and student-student communication without the need for translation.
Texts, teacher's books, and necessary materials are available for all courses taught and all Teachers’ Offices provide free internet access. Most schools also provide source materials for supplementary games and worksheets to use in the classroom.
SCHEDULES
All teachers work a regular schedule of 5 days per week. Where a sixth day is worked a choice is given for it to be taken at a later date as time off in lieu, or to be paid as a bonus in the following month's salary.
The average schedule consists of 18-22 contact hours per week and split shifts are avoided wherever possible.
TRAINING AND INDUCTION
Regardless of experience and/or qualifications all new teachers receive a week's paid training prior to beginning their full teaching schedule.
The training is aimed mainly at the teaching of young learners with focus on areas such as the teaching of reading and writing, classroom management, implementation of activities, and lesson planning. Trainees will also observe the classes of experienced teachers to see how the theory works in practice.
SUPPORT
Teachers will always have a senior member of staff with whom they can discuss any aspects of their work. Also, each school has a full time welfare officer to help teachers settle smoothly into living in China and provide ongoing assistance on all matters that may otherwise prove difficult with the language barrier.
ACCOMMODATION
Varies in price depending on city, location, and whether the apartment is shared or not. The range is from 1200-2000RMB per month and utilities are very cheap.

for a post, attending an interview or working abroad.
Do not provide any banking or credit card information when applying
for a job.

consider using a post office box or similar forwarding address.
When attending a job interview, if you feel in any way uncomfortable
with the situation or the person/s you are dealing with, walk away. Also
consider your work location, do you feel it is safe? Would you be happy
to work there late at night?
Always let a friend know that you are attending an interview, when and
where. acquaint yourself fully with how to get to the interview and how
to get back.
An interview should always be arranged in daylight hours.
If the job appears to be "too good to be true", it probably is. Fully

employees. Most reputable employers should be happy to put you in touch
with previous/current staff.

(even for a visa, work-permit etc.). If a tefl.com advertiser does ask
you for payment, refuse and contact us immediately.
