    Details
We seek a mothertongue teacher who is enthusiastic and professional and would like to further his/her career at our school. The ideal candidate has a CELTA or TESOL and three years' experience, is a Cambridge Oral Examiner or would like to train to become one. He or she would teach Business English in companies, General English, Legal English, exam preparation classes in the evenings (FCE, CAE, CPE preparation), children courses (must like kids). Together with the owner, he or she would do some teacher training workshops for our teachers and Italian state school teachers.
    Accommodation
    We will help with accommodation.
    School
Anderson House was established in 1996. It has been an 'srl' (limited company) since 2006. It is on the outskirts of Bergamo - in Curno, the commercial part of Bergamo - with plenty of free parking. We have 10 English teachers plus 10 for other languages. 85% of the teaching is for English the remaining 15% includes Italian for foreigners, French, German, Spanish, etc. We have 7 classrooms, a computer room, a resource room for teachers, 3 offices. The school is run by myself, my wife Antonella and Hianeya our secretary. Most of the work is in companies in the vicinities of the school (10 min to 25 min drive), so most of the teaching is with adults. We have some classes with children and would like to develop this market as we offer YLE. We have 3 school cars. If you have your own, it would be ideal for us as we pay for transfer at ACI rates. Moreover, it would be convenient for you if you want to do sightseeing in the area at weekends or go skiing in winter.
    Bergamo
Bergamo is in the centre of Lombardy, near the north Italian lakes, the Alps and Milan (30 miles). It is part of an industrial belt that goes from Milan to Brescia - but has plenty of countryside, hills and beautiful mountains. Bergamo has a pretty medieval Upper Town called 'Città Alta' surrounded by Venetian walls and has one of the top-ten provincial museums in Italy: la Pinacoteca Carrara (being restored at the moment). Atalanta - the Bergamo football team - are in Serie B this year but hope to return to Seria A. Bergamo also has an excellent womens' volleyball team - Foppapedretti, one of the best European American Football teams - Lions, and are crazy about cycling: the Giro d'Italia is very popular here. As for rugby you need to go to Brescia which is nearby. There is also a piano festival and Bergamo is the birthplace of Donizetti. The Bergamasks describe themselves as (in Bergamasque): 'Rasa bergamasca, fiama de rar, sota la sender brasca' - "The Bergamasque race, seldom ablaze, under the ashes embers" that is a quiet, introvert people - somewhat rugged and grim at times, but once they get to know you, they become friends for life. Bergamasks are famous in Italy for being extremely hard-working and love manufacturing things. Industry still resists here (steel industry and seamless tubes, cement, tractors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, electrical components, textile, etc) although the north of Italy is undergoing a slow and inexorable deindustrialisation.
    QFG
AH is part of a growing network of quality schools called QFG specialised in corporate language training. There are about 35 schools in the group with different levels of involvement. We are amongst the most active as we believe that only by getting together in a consortium will we survive and thrive. QFG organises joint training sessions (eg CERTIBET, Legal English, DPI, etc).
    Other services
Two years ago we became a Cambridge Centre for YLE, KET, PET, BEC and computer centre for these exams. We are a BULATS Centre. We offer training to become Cambridge and BULATS examiners. We are a TOEFL and TOEIC centre. Certifications account for 10% of our turnover, whereas 15% is for translations. Some of our teachers also do translations for us, if you are interested. We are trying to push management training such as DPI (Developing People Internationally), IC (Intercultural Communication), TIP (The International Profiler), team-building, etc and legal and financial English.

There are several commonsense factors you should consider when applying for a post, attending an interview or working abroad.
  • Do not provide any banking or credit card information when applying for a job.
  • If you are concerned about divulging your home address in your resume, consider using a post office box or similar forwarding address.
  • When attending a job interview, if you feel in any way uncomfortable with the situation or the person/s you are dealing with, walk away. Also consider your work location, do you feel it is safe? Would you be happy to work there late at night?
  • Always let a friend know that you are attending an interview, when and where. acquaint yourself fully with how to get to the interview and how to get back.
  • An interview should always be arranged in daylight hours.
  • If the job appears to be "too good to be true", it probably is. Fully research the employer via web forums, search engines and previous employees. Most reputable employers should be happy to put you in touch with previous/current staff.
  • As previously stated, no reputable employer will ask you for money (even for a visa, work-permit etc.). If a tefl.com advertiser does ask you for payment, refuse and contact us immediately.
  • As a TEFL.com member your resume contact details are not in the public domain. Only registered employers can view your resume (contact details removed) via our resume search engine. If an employer wishes to view your contact details they are required to use a "ResumeView". Our system logs all resumes viewed by the employer. You can also check as to which employers have viewed your resume at http://www.tefl.com/career/rv_history.html or by clicking on "Who's viewed my resume" within your account page.
  • Register with your embassy as soon as you arrive in the host country.

  • Your safety is paramount. If you feel uneasy with any part of the application procedure or interview, walk away!

    Going abroad...
  • Get travel insurance and check that the cover is appropriate.
  • Check what vaccinations you need at least 6 weeks before you go and consider whether you need to take extra health precautions
  • Ensure you have a valid passport that is in good condition and the necessary visas.
  • Make copies of your passport (including any visa pages), insurance policy plus 24-hour emergency number, and ticket details. Leave these copies, your itinerary and contact details with family and friends.
