Details of Position
The standard contract offered by the school is an initial six-month contract, but there is the possibility to extend the contract if it is in the interest of both parties.The teacher is expected to get a one-month business visa upon arrival. The school will provide an invitation letter for visa support. Thereafter, the school’s HR department will handle the process of Visa extension until the completion of the teacher’s contract.
Teachers teach four, eighty-minute classes per day, four times a week (on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday). Class sizes are usually between 8-12 students. The majority of our students are aged between 12-21, although there often more adult students in our evening classes. Teachers only teach students who are Pre-Intermediate level or above. Lower levels are taught by local staff.
Locally owned and managed, The London School offers a positive, open and upbeat atmosphere to work in.We have excellent facilities at our school, including a library, cafe and modern, individual classrooms for each teacher equipped with a computer and projector. Free computer and internet access are available for teachers at the school.
The London School offers Russian and Kyrgyz Courses for foreigners. For our teachers, Russian and Kyrgyz lessons are discounted. Our local teachers are experts in helping beginners get to conversational level fairly quickly. Although Russian is most useful in Bishkek, if you want to travel beyond the city limits a basic knowledge of Kyrgyz is useful unless you are with a guide.
Bishkek is surrounded by mountains and the school regularly arranges excursions for teachers. The mountains begin at the edge of town, so there are endless opportunities for skiing, hiking and travelling. The opportunities to travel within Kyrgyzstan are boundless and particularly rewarding for hikers and nature lovers. If you need advice on planning trips anywhere in the country, the office staff will be more than willing to help.
QualificationsApplicants must have a TEFL / TESOL / CELTA certificate in order to comply with local immigration ministry requirements.
Applicants should have at least one year of prior teaching experience, although applications from newly-qualified teachers may also be considered.
Unfortunately, we are only able to consider applicants who are citizens of the USA, UK or Canada from birth, as we are unable to secure work permissions for teachers of other nationalities.
Salary and BenefitsThe ordinary monthly salary is 40,000 som, plus 2,500 som for additional activities (such as workshops and student placement interviews) and 2,500 som for assessing students’ writing assignments. This is more than enough to live comfortably on in Bishkek. The average salary in Bishkek is under 11,600 som
The school will also provide a flight compensation bonus of 18,000 som upon the successful conclusion of the teacher’s contract, provided that the teacher’s contract length is not less than six months and that the teacher completes the contract according to the provisions set out within it.
A comfortable room with all conditions will be provided free of charge by the school. The school will also pay all utility bills associated with the room.
The school also offers discounted Russian or Kyrgyz lessons for our staff.
