Details of Position

We are recruiting for professional, well-qualified, creative and enthusiastic staff to work with us on our successful, well-established summer school programme. New College Group Summer School is based at Queen Ethelburga’s College in York and will operate from 2nd July to 13th August 2017.
New College Group has 2 thriving schools based in Manchester and Liverpool City Centre. Our International Summer School has recently completed its fifth year and operates during the summer holidays for six weeks. The programme offers a wide range of academic, sporting and cultural opportunities for approximately 300 students, aged 11-17, from all over the world.
Students will enjoy 15 hours of English lessons per week and take part in a full activity programme in either the mornings or afternoons, as well as the evenings and weekends. The students will go on one full-day excursion and one half-day excursion each week.

Centre Manager
Start date - 1st June at NCG Manchester (accommodation provided)
You will move to York on 28th June (full board and accommodation provided)
We are looking for a highly-organised Centre Manager who has previous experience managing Summer Schools. You will have an excellent awareness of the operation of a summer school and be ready to address any situations as and when they arise. We are looking for someone to join our team at NCG in Manchester city centre who will develop Summer School 4 weeks prior to Summer School commencing. You will then be required to reside at Queen Ethelburga’s college from the end of June until Summer School finishes and a full pack down is complete.
The role includes;
-Overseeing the whole running of Summer School
-Ensuring that both the academic and activity programme run successfully
-Line managing the Director of Studies and Activity Manager
-Managing a team of approximately 40 staff members
-Setting up and packing down the site
- Managing all operational and logistical issues in an efficient and timely manner
-Organising airport transfers
-Allocating student bedrooms
-Training staff during the induction period
-Representing the company professionally, implementing company policies/instructions and effectively communicating them to staff and customers
-Undergoing safeguarding and first aid training
-Compiling Summer School related documents
-Being involved in marketing and the promotion of Summer School
-Keeping accurate data with regard to student occupancy (bed lists, fire lists, catering lists etc)
-Having effective communication with NCG head office, students, staff and International Group Leaders
-Undertaking any other duties to assist in the day-to-day running of the Summer School
Director of Studies
Start date - 28th June
We are looking for an experienced and well-qualified professional to manage and be responsible for the day to day running of the Academic Programme. You will have an excellent awareness of the operation of a summer school and be ready to address any situations as and when they arise.
The role includes;
-Having overall responsibility for managing and supporting the academic team
-Conducting student placement tests and the classing of new students
-Monitoring student attendance
-Teaching and covering classes when required
-Holding daily teachers’ meetings
-Completing administrative tasks
-Preparing leaving certificates and reports
-Being responsible for pre-arrival academic set up and effectively induct teachers at the beginning of the course
-Setting up the Teachers’ Preparation room with appropriate signage and maintain it as a functioning workspace
-Supporting, managing and guiding Teachers through lesson observations, feedback and workshops
-Keeping clear and accurate records of class attendance and work covered
-Carrying out lesson observations and feedback
-Carrying out regular teaching workshops and ideas sessions
-Dealing sensitively with enquiries on classes and levels
-Providing feedback on the syllabus and academic processes at the end of the summer
-Undertaking any other duties to assist in the day-to-day running of the Summer School
Activity Manager
Start date - 28th June
We are looking for an Activity Manager who has endless enthusiasm and is passionate about creating an exciting programme for our students. You will have a good awareness of the operation of summer school and be willing to address situations when they arise.
The role includes;
-Seeking feedback from staff, students and International Group Leaders on the leisure programme, putting strategies in place to constantly improve the team’s delivery
-Creating and leading the activity programme
-Ensuring activities are set up and implemented to a high standard
-Briefing activity staff on all aspects of their responsibilities, including detailed briefings in advance of each activity, excursion or transfer
-Ensuring the activity team have the information and equipment they need in order to perform their roles well, including cultural information for excursions and important health and safety information (e.g. risk assessment conclusions)
-Organising excursions by making reservations, liaising with coach companies, organising students into groups
-Being involved in the training of new staff
-Carrying out activity observations
-Leading with both arrival and departure airport transfers, providing a positive first and last impression
-Undertaking any other duties to assist in the day-to-day running of the Summer School
Please Note
All positions are residential.
The cost of the DBS will be split between NCG and yourself, your contribution will be £27 and will be taken out of your first payment.

• An undergraduate/university degree
• Experience managing people and junior residential centers effectively is also key
• TEFLQ desirable
• Previous Summer School management experience is essential
• Computer literate
• First Aid certificate desirable
Director of Studies
• An undergraduate/university degree
• TEFLQ diploma (e.g. DELTA or Grad Dip TESOL; MA ELT/TESOL)
• Considerable experience of teaching EFL to Young Learners
• Experience of managing staff in an educational capacity
• Computer literate
• First Aid certificate desirable
Activity Manager
• An undergraduate/university degree
• Energy, enthusiasm, flexibility and a 'can do' attitude are essential for this role
• Extensive knowledge of the North's tourist sites and British culture is necessary
• Previous Summer School experience is essential
• Computer literate
• First Aid certificate desirable

Salary and Benefits

Centre Manager - £650 per week + holiday pay
Director of Studies - £550 per week + holiday pay
Activity Manager - £450 per week + holiday pay
All positions include full board and lodgings
